Missed most of it so far, how's he doing? Just set up a chance with decent long range pass.
He's captain and playing central midfield, apparently can play right back or centre back as well. Same age as Shelvey was 2 years ago when he played for England u16s.
Just checked, and the first 'Jonjo Shelvey looks good for England U16s' thread was in Nov 2007, five months before he went on to make his 1st team debut.
Will we see Cousins feature before the end of the season ? Has he featured in any of these hastily arranged reserves run outs yet ?
The thing about Cousins (and Jonjo), is that they *really* stand out, as they don't fit the usual Charlton Midfield/Defensive Youth product, which in the main was a ball shifter and a box to box player (not usually overly creative tbh).
Both their 1st touch's are excellent and most notably their balance whilst in control of the ball is also excellent.
Whenever I went to Sparrows Lane to watch the kids the first touch of the midfield players was to be frank bloody awful.
Jonjo and Cousins in the centre of the park would be exciting to watch but doubt we'll see that :o(
saw him play a couple of seasons ago for one of the youth teams down at the valley against reading, must say he has improved considerably looked very composed last night.

The question is, will he still be with us when hes old enough to sing a pro contract? He's not 16 until March so there's still 18 months for the big boys to lure him away.

Or for us to at least get back into contention in the Championship...

Anyone know if he is a sensible lad like Jonjo?
Does he have any relations that post on Charlton Life?
My friend Zak Ansah scored the winner last night, cracking header from the lad. He played in the same youth team as my little brother before being picked up by Arsenal, even at such a young age you could see the kid was going to be different class. Big future ahead of him.

If Zak's anything like his father he'll fade away faster than Paul Bacon.
Even with Jonjo's undoubted talent I think the question of our youth setup is that why virtually all of them come into the first team without a real physical competitive edge/drive. Say for instance someone like Basey. It's great to see him having a bit more competitiveness/determination now, but he actually looks younger and fresher after shedding some weight during his spell in the first team squad; one dreads to think the fitness regime these boys are on at 16... sure don't overbulk them but they should be lean and effervescent like say McMannaman at 18-19 even if like Mca they couldn't last 65 mins.
We seem to have quality there just not a correct blend of drive and determination. Why do Luton constantly propel teenagers into their first team squad, who look like boys but physically match veteran pros? It might be to do with Luton's historical connection with Ireland, and the Irish boys that make it being a lot more competitive, but for the most they still seem to be more positionally comfortable and competitive wherever their background is.
Just watching Shelvey play a loose left, positionally indistinct on tuesday night was a real mystery. They were shocking down the flanks and if Shelvey went tight to the midfield center, where he's best, he may have seen more ball and picked up secondary break-down ball. I can't for the life of me think for once when Youga or Basey was defensively under pressure, yet by the second half BR pushed one of their fb's into midfield at virtually all times whilst Shelvey was in between everything. Many talented players, but virtually one and all of them postionally ineffective when they get into the 1st team.
Blimey Colin, I usually love what you write, but I've read your latest bit four times and can't get what you're saying. What does this mean, for example: "sure don't overbulk them but they should be lean and effervescent like say McMannaman at 18-19 even if like Mca they couldn't last 65 mins." or this: "They were shocking down the flanks and if Shelvey went tight to the midfield center, where he's best, he may have seen more ball and picked up secondary break-down ball. I can't for the life of me think for once when Youga or Basey was defensively under pressure, yet by the second half BR pushed one of their fb's into midfield at virtually all times whilst Shelvey was in between everything"

What, we have two England U16 captains in quick succession? Maybe there are some silver linings...
composed last night.
Well done Steve Gritt then!
Or for us to at least get back into contention in the Championship...

And they say this sites on the wane.
Comedy never hit Bromley. . . .
Andy's lad I believe.
Well.......He'd be in my DreamTeam !!
England won 2-1 and won thw victory shield.
Would be nice if the club presented him to the crowd at the next home game.
Being a winning England captain is a rare thing and should be recognised.

A very good idea, Falconwood - hope it happens. Just before the game, not at half time when everyone's out for a pee or a drink.
damn i wish i could play like him :)
Wayne Rooney is only two months older than me.
So two months from now... watch this space!

Good observation Colin and I totally agree.
