saw the famous " winston Churchall, Lady Di,Maggie Thatcher we have givern your boys a hell of a beating" game. Up there with "they think its all over" as the greatest ever pundit/commontery ever FACT.
Very cold at night now and hellish expensive. If you got on a fyordd trip watch the times as fog comes down and u can see naff all. Could be in Deptford Creek except the locals speak English in Oslo.
Well I spent five hours in Torp airport the other day waiting for my connection back from Ukraine... though I could hardly write a lonely planet guide on the place, £9 a pint of piss carlsberg suggests my next trip there may have to be funded by Camelot
If you are going with Ryanair I assume you will be arriving at Oslo Torp Sandefjord? Nearly 2 hours from Oslo by coach! Beer and food are crazily expensive. We did a couple of tours whilst there. Most leAve from the harbour, the best one took in the 3 main museums, the hollbacken ski jump and a short fjord cruise. Was about £30.00 each. Good though. Also did the stadium tour at Uvaal. Not much of a ground but the guide was a laugh and they do the dressing rooms etc. The metro goes there Uvaal Stadium is the stop. Chain pubs tend to be slightly cheaper. Winston Churchills was about £6.00 a pint. Food is dear wherever you go. We paid £100.00 for 3 courses plus drinks qt the Hard Rock cafe!!!!.
Gardemoen airport is a short train ride into the town centre but it sounds like you're going to Torp which is a couple of hours away.
As others have said Oslo is very scary pricewise to drink, the Aker Brygge down by the waterfront has a good selection of bars / restaurants etc.
The Akershus is the Fort that looks down on the waterfront and is interesting if you're interested in the Norwegian WW2 resistance. Boat tours are quite good and not too long. The city isn't huge so you can see most of the main sites in a long weekend, can't comment on the pubs/clubs I'm afraid.
When we were there a few years ago most of the shops shut on a Sunday...
Very rich country due to North Sea Gas/Oil - all earn very well, state looks after everyone very well, very high taxation, currency very strong against the pound, they are all God fearing so the Christian Government gets away with charging £8 a pint. Norwegians tend to make their own hooch and are rocking before they go out.
I went for a couple of weeks a few years back.....wasnt much to do except fish in the lakes...did a few day tours of Oslo. The Viking Museum was excellent, the royal palace was worth a look, but as mentioned here, the place is ridiculously expensive....£5.00 for a bag of fries. We stayed in a magnificent house on Norways biggest lake, cant remember the name, about an hour outside Oslo. I was bored one evening and went for a drive and found a town about as big as Dartford, and thought Id stop and have a beer.....I couldnt find anywhere open at 8pm....nowhere and it was mid August. Beer is incredibly expensive. Nice place, but probably wouldnt go again and certainly not for two weeks without taking out a second mortgage first.
I thought Oslo was a nice enough place when I was there, but I hardly thought of it as party town.
I'm sure the locals know where to go to let their hair down, though.
Not the place to go for a drinking weekend, unless you're minted.
1 beer with a pizza could set you back 15 squid before you've even thought about getting wasted.
Anyway, the people are nice enough and you'll come back back with clear memories - as you won't be able to afford the hangover.
Nice city but not very big and you've soon done it. As everyone says, it is not cheap. Still, at least everyone is friendly as they take your money. As Iwe were only there for 2 nights, we just imagined that the flight was £100 dearer and drunk beer in the normal way.
However, if you can get a car (or take a train), there are some nice places not far outside Oslo - nice little villages on lakes etc. When you come back you will be pining for the fjords.
Also got an offer on the Best Western (good enough hotel, close to town and on a kerbcrawling thoroughfare if that's your thing - there's a warning in the welcome stuff in the room about it!!).
But the food and drink prices are indeed horrific. Even the cheapest supermarket beer a few years ago was about 2 quid a tin and was almost undrinkable!! You've done extremely well if you find a pint for 6 quid.
Thanks guys, i think the plan is to buy a bottle of single malt each at Stansted and have that while we're over there!
So blond Norwegian prossies near the Best western? Think that settles it then!!
We're going on the saturday morning and back on the sunday. The thinking is that we end up paying at least £6 per drink in a club in central London so its not that bad!
Flying into Rygge Airport and can get a train straight to the city centre.
Comments
I like Norway, but that is because I stay with the in laws and it is cheaper. Not my choice for a trip with a few mates - beer prices are a disaster.
Some really nice restaurants there and only a stones throw from the main shopping areas
Used to be a Rainbow hotel but now in a different chain I think - I haven't been back for a couple of years
We'll be bring duty free with us I think!!
Any clubs? things to do during the day?

There's a penis museum too I think

Entry prices are a bit stiff.
