Semedo back

edited October 2009 in General Charlton
sounds like Semedo could be back next week, if so it is a given that he will be selected - most of us would probably say that Spring has been (to everyone's surprise) very good and merits his place in the team.

We need to freshen things up a bit anyway, so which player gets 'rotated' - or indeed which two players if Parky decides to start with one of the Mac Lads alongside Burton?

  • Well Shelvey shouldn't play but whther you replace him with Semedo or a forward is up to Parky :P
  • Samedo needs to start again with Racon, they have a great partnership in the centre, as to who you drop I would probably say Spring.
  • Semedo has to start! Our best player this season in my opinion. Have been impressed with Spring though. Dilemma! Over to Parkinson...

Agreed. You play your best players and Semedo is better than Spring.
  • hate to say it but if you pick the team on their performances then Shelvey should probably miss out when semedo is back. He hasnt played badly, its just i think everyone else in the middle has played better. Would be very harsh to drop spring, hes played well in his cameo.

Could do him the world of good a rest - the whole league now know about him and playing Spring instead would be interesting as the other teams are unsure of his capabilities - also is it me or does he seem to be the only one willing to take a shot from outside the area? nice shots too most of the time.

I'd personally love to see how Semedo and Spring play together.
  • Spring has always popped up with a few goals despite playing in midfield and isn't afraid to have a shot from distance. His passing is always good as well.

Semedo back as the holding player for sure.

The question is does PP play spring in the hole instead of Shelvey, go 442 or even play 4411 with Burton playing off McKenzie.
  • if you go 4-4-1-1... with Burton and Mac up front...... then who are your 4 in the middle: Bailey, Semedo, Racon, Spring and Sam make 5.... so who do you drop?
  • Spring every time!
  • Can't drop Spring after last Saturday and I think most agree that Shelvey looks due a rest. So that's Semedo back in without too much problem.

The dilemma, then, is if we play 4-4-2, which other midfielder gives way for McSomeone? Sam didn't look particularly fit v Oldham so that's one option, but if he is 100 per cent, I'd definitely want him in the side.

It's a tough one. But it probably won't arise as I don't think Parky's stubborn nature will allow him to play what most of us would recognise as 4-4-2 - especially as he seems to think that's what we're playing, anyway.

His stubborness can be very positive,by the way, so I'm not criticising him. It was that very stubborness which got him through the summer and all the uncertainty and put us where we are today, in the top two...

Ok we get the point Mike, you've not failed to tell us a dozen times whenever the opportunity arises.

NEWSFLASH................'Mike of CL in drop Shelvey plea.'
  • Spring played well on sat and maybe would benefit playing a little further forward with Semedo back in the holding role! Spring has shown that he has a good eye for goal both last season and this, also we do tend to get in decent shooting positions but often need someone like Spring who is not afraid to have a go and quite good too
  • I think we should drop Lloyd Sam.
Been very quiet last couple of games.
Bring Semedo back in alongside Racon and Bailey, Spring, and shelvey pushing forward and also rotating left to right to central.
We got spotty to come on when one gets weary and also Izzy and Leon to replace Deon.
Spring could be good pushed further forward IMO.
  • At the moment I'd put in one or both of the Macs for Jonjo/Deon and I'd probably leave Springer where he is. Semedo's one of my favourite players, but I think you need to show fringe players that merit will get you a place in the team. I'd also give Lloyd a break for Waggy to come in.

Of League One. Did it also put us there, is a question...

But, thinking about it I reckon what you say is right.
  • Sam was limping slightly in the game v Oldham. Think he needs to be rested to clear up the groin problem.
  • Sodje back as well.

Lots of (mainly nice) selection problems for Parkinsella
  • Sam was very poor at Colchester (haven't been to the last two games so can't comment on them) so maybe should be the one to make way.
  • Sam has been injured for about 3 weeks now!
  • I was all for 442 Saturday as it soon became obvious we needed it. But how do hudders play? Will they park the bus? If they are a footballing side 4411 might be better suited.
