The Saudi's are coming

edited October 2009 in General Charlton
Report in the Arab times today says that the top football administrator predicts at least 12 english clubs could be bought by Saudi businessmen.

Liverpool is obviously the big one as Prince Faisal is looking at them, but the article goes on to say they are looking at championship clubs, specificaly they want a club where the average crowd is high, facilities are good and are a club in London - 'to buy a club in the first division and bring it up is a even better investment'

Could get very interesting if we are promoted this year!

  • Rules out Palarse then.
  • Wouldnt want to be owned by Saudis. Lived there for over two years and its one of the most backward, hypocritical places Ive ever been to. Its a joke how they are held up to be some sort of friendly modern islamic nation when they are probably one of the least tolerant societies...but they sell us and america oil so i they are alright i suppose in political circles.

Oh and a lot of terrorists come from their which is conveniently overlooked by the politicians.

Got a brilliant football stadium in Riyadh though.

    PMSL......well that's alright then.

Nice one RCT, made me laugh.
  • They have just opened up their first mixed university so slowly its getting better. The king is in a very difficult position as he does want to be more open, it is the hard line scholars that are the problem.

I am over ther the end of the month for a week, by all accounts it will make Kuwait (where I am) seem like butlins!!

Thankfully I fly to bahrain after so I can get my drink on there.

Agree Rodney. Bit like the Libyian situation. The harsh reality is though our cars are no good without petrol!

Wouldnt want to be owned by Saudis...... agreed on that one, but feel we are in a minority on this one, just do not see how a bunch of businessmen from a different culture will ever understand Charlton, first move would be to move into the Olympic stadium because it makes financial sense and gets the goverment off the hook...It is not that long ago that the club floated the idea of moving to the Greenwich peninsular, personally would not step a foot outside the Valley, so i am probably in a minority of one again......
  • Agreed. We should never let The Valley go - especially as it can be expanded on to hold at least 40,000

Sorry, but what do you mean by 'the first division?'

It's all too confusing these days. Surely the first division is 'The Premiership' so how can you go up.

    Two

EDIT: Just to clarify I'm referring to leaving The Valley.

Instinct would suggest caution re foreign ownership but if they are laissez faire and leave the ethos of the Club alone it might work...
  • I never want Charlton to be bought, because in 10-15 years when I have millions I want to buy em. Box guaranteed for the Charlton Life lot!
