Wow - that is an interesting development.
  • Great news
  • He was doing so well at Sheff Wed as well.
  • Great Stuff.

Proves that the takeover is on/off/in the balance (delete according to prejudice)
  • top news that
  • Welcome back Peter. Things are really looking up.
  • Yes good news......................................... and 'rather' interesting!!
  • Glad to see him back. A good Charlton man and a shrewd move by the board. Lets hope he can secure the additinal investment we will need in the future.
  • interesting.....great move by the club though

  • Very good news, a warm welcome back Peter.
  • Has to be a positive move by an astute leader of this club.

Never quite sure why he left, or the reasons behind his departure, perhaps he needed a rest or a break from Charlton for a while!

Too me a safe pair of hands that could be the best signing this year......

    Welcome back Peter
  • maybe he can help the geordie ;-)
  • Bouncy, bouncy type welcome back Peter.
  • AND, maybe as important, Sir Maurice Hatter has been replaced on the Board by his son.
  • I bet Waggott is overjoyed!
  • aah, that makes sense. So now the unofficial team of the last few months becomes the official team.

Well sort of. Not quite sure what to make of the Hatter situation.
  • looks like waggott will be enjoying this apointment
  • This such good news that it made me write in for the first time. Just looks that we are really on our way back upwards.
    It,s a sign.

Well sort of. Not quite sure what to make of the Hatter situation.

It maybe just related to his age - I think he is 78-79 now so maybe doesn't want or need direct involvement.

  • It has to be excellent news having Peter Varney's name back on the notepaper.

However non executive director is a very general term so it is open to interpretation how much involvement he will actually take on in reality.

It might be just a matter of securing the "goodwill" attached to his name and reputation in order to attract new investment without him needing to "do" much at all.

Pure speculation on my part of course. As Manuel famously said I know nooothing!
  • Its almost back to the good old days eh ooooo aaaaahhhhh?

    Hello fastforward.

and hello spor - nice to see you posting again. x
  • i agree with what len is saying, it's just a way to pay him for his general busyness in trying to find investment for us rather than having to brown envelope him
  • Brilliant news. Always seemed bizarre that he left the club and yet he was working for the club trying to broker a deal.

I still think there was/must be some sort of issue between Murray/Varney and Chapple, as Varney left when Chappel took charge didn't he?

Now Murray's in charge Varney is officially back.
  • I heard his appointment was going to be based on results...

  • Great news. Welcome back Peter, boy have we missed you.
  • Good stuff, welcome back.....
  • Thought Mr Murray said Mr Varney left Charlton due to ill health.Trust all is well now with Mr Varney.
As for his new post at Charlton not quite sure what to make of it.Given time things can only get better but as for the reason coming back to se7 only time will tell us why this appointment has now been made.
