[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]maybe because four of our shots, rather than being parried or blocked and so resulting in a corner, went straight in the net.
Still 7-6 to Barnet on corners!
As I said (further up) it is a long term trend of ours being outcornered in most games. We don't get many pens either come to that.
I would be interested to see what % of corners actually result in goals. It always seems to me like a vast majority of them just go straight to the keeper or are headed clear.
One positive thing about corners though is that Jonjo is the best corner taker we've had for years. I remember getting so frustrated with Kinsella's little floaters to the near post which NEVER beat the first man.
Some of our defending at corners is sometimes a cause for concern but at last we're starting to leave a man upfield to pick up clearances. I never understood why Curbs didn't do this with Rommerdahl. He couldn't tackle or head a ball so what was the point of having him back to defend?
''shhhhhh that is plan B, kick the ball out for throw-ins to waste time''
Nah. That used to work, Uncle, but now every ball boy has a spare ball and throws another one straight back on as soon as one gets hoofed into the back of the stand.
I read an analysis a few seasons ago that said on average the ball is now in play 3-4 mins longer in every game due to this simple expedient!

In League One if you have a guy who can deliver and a couple of good headers of the ball you can compete. I've never seen a div like it for set piece goals.
I reckon we give so many corners away becuase we surrender territory and don't fight far enough up the pitch.

Definitely something in that Colin. Hopefully won't cost us too many goals this year but could be a weak spot.
Comments
Could be!
Joking aside it is a trend I have noticed for years. We don't seem to get that many but give away loads. Safety first I guess?
What per centage of the corners we concede lead directly to goals ? Surely the only stat that matters...
Really we only gave away 7 last night, as my match comments indicate I honestly thought it was closer to 15!!

Sack the ballboys ;-)

You beat me to it : - )
Goals count not corners
Another theory blown to bits! Where do we go from here?
if we dont get enough corners; complain
If we do get lots of corners complain we dont score from them.
If we score from goals complain that we cant score from open play.
Simples ; - )
