Logistics for tonight.....**PART OF THE EAST STAND NOW OPEN**

edited October 2009 in General Charlton
Anyone explain to me how this is going to work ?

'Only seats for the lower west stand will be sold initially, with club officials making a decision on whether to open the east stand for the match depending on demand.'

So when is a decision going to be made with regard to demand ??

If there is a rush of people at 7.15, and the club decide to open the East, then surely it must already have the turnstyle operators, stewards, kiosk staff, food etc already there in the eventuality of this happening ?

I can understand waiting and making a decision the day before the game, but 1hr or 15 mins before KO just doesn't make sense and could turn out to be a logistically disaster.

Will come KO there be more people outside the ground than inside ?

  • sounds like chaos, one reason I'm not going i.e. big queues..
  • Queues will be the order of the day. Just be thankfull we havent followed a number of other clubs and gone for a 7pm kick off. Why would you do that?
  • My guess is the the Club will have a pretty good idea of the probable number of walk-ups on the night. The number of tickets sold so far must suggest that the Lower West is all we are likely to need tonight.

    Queues?

    Ahem .........
  • The League encouraged clubs to kick off at 7pm. We declined.

In terms of tonight, we've currently sold about 1,600 tickets, as far as I can tell. We'd expect a very large walk-up proportionate to that sale, but we should able to sell much faster than usual with a flat price of £5 and potentially we can move the sale to the turnstiles, which will help.

I can't comment on the east stand, but I know Mick Everett is in charge and I have every confidence in Mick, although personally I think it's a very hard one to call.
  • Have Barnet got their own section? Some say they're only taking 50, some say 500? Be chaos if any of their 'nawty boys' are mixed in with our ones. ;-)
  • Open the West upper, easy to shift food and staff upstairs, job done
  • When the club came out with just the west lower to be opened, the first thing that went through my head was....

Man Utd, FA Youth Cup, Jan 1995.

    Now that was chaos!!
  • The weather could affect numbers - if it's the same as it is here in Kent that is.
  • There may be trouble ahead

Yes, we remember and that's why a decision about the east stand will be made at about 4.30pm. It should be reported on the OS.

It's likely to be central blocks only if at all, but if it does open it will be at the same time as the lower west.

  • The sun is shining on the valley as we speak. My only predicament is the best way to get from where i am working (the excel) to the valley. I can see it but cant figure out the quickest route

    Swim

That's what I thought, no idea why they want to open the east instead. Far easy to police one stand.
  • Edit:

Is there actually any need for police tonight?!

If everythings running, I'd say DLR to canning town, jubilee to North Greenwich then the bus down to The Valley. If it's not running OK, yes, swim.

The issue is stewarding to meet the requirements of the safety certificate and turnstile operators, plus potentially catering outlets.

That's what I was thinking. Are they all going to be on standby?
  • It will be the substitutes.

They'll be warming up on the pitch, practising their shooting, then Dave Lockwood will bing bong over the tannoy and announce "all queue busters to East Stand turnstiles" and you'll see them all sprint off the pitch.

    Mark my words.
  • Whatever the club decide re tonight, I am sure someone will find something to complain about. Queue for Beer, not enough beer, food too cold or too hot, not enough programmes, people turning up 5 mins before KO then wondering why they have to queue, I am sure there are loads more :-)
  • The OS is reporting blocks D & E of the East will be open for cash sales only

I'd pay good money to watch Dave Lockwood sprint.
  • Just been to the ticket office. Apparently only west stand available at the moment. Am sat in the liberal. Very quiet. Only 5 people in here
  • From Twitter feed:

Charlton have opened the middle two blocks of the east stand for tonight's game. Cash only at the turnstiles
