  • So who was given offside.......?

Before the ball was kicked Llera was marginally in an offside position, but apparently not at the moment Jonjo struck the free kick. So not Llera, then.

Certainly not Burton who ran in late from behind his marker - and by that time both a defender and the keeper (who of course counts as a defender) were both between Burton and the goal line.

As far as I can see, there is no Charlton player in the video footage in an offside position and deemed to be interfering with play at the point Jonjo struck the freekick or subsequently.

It appears to be an error by the assistant and referee, that cost us what could have been the winning goal - and 2 further points.
  • Tight is probably a fairer description. Would probably looked off to a lot of people from square on. Good finish though wasn't it? Real striker's finish that one. Very encouraging.
  • Sorry but that wasn't tight.

I was sitting pretty much in line with it and when I I saw it first time I knew it was onside.

    Very poor decision.
  • All of the officials last week bottled it, with all due respect to them they are probably used to officiating games at that level with 4,000 people, and not hostile atmosphres, think the occasion got to all of them and they bottled alot of the big discisions
  • I thought at the time it wasn't offside and we should have had a definite penalty.

As you say WIWLB the officials definitely bottled it. Imagine the uproar if it was a Premiership game, we'd still be reading about it in the papers today.
  • It wasnt just the offside,, there were things going on in the second half that players should have been booked for or dare i say it sent off, and then to level things off books a player for a mis timed challange, the annoying thing is players train all week, punters pay their hard earnt money to watch a game, but if the officials are not upto it they are going to ruin the game for which is a classic example last week, however, i think it is something we are just going to have to get used to, lets hope it doesnt prove to be a costly mistake come May
  • I said at the time had the player been booked for the tackle 5 minutes before or the number 3 been booked in the 1st half it wouldn't have gone off like it did in the 2nd half as they would have been wary off being sent off.

Whilst sometimes it can be good for the refs to keep his cards in his pocket, this wasn't one of those occasions and he couldn't keep control of the players, which showed when the big bloke shoved Bailey to the floor and still got away with it.
  • No. 12 was exceptionally lucky not to be booked.
  • I wasn't there so can't comment first hand. All I can comment on is what I know. The referee would have met with his assistants and 4th man before the game, they're required to be the ground 3 hours before kick on the Football League. He would have known this had the ingredients to be a spicy match with Pardew having left Charlton in less than friendly circumstances and Parky being in charge now. Also their 10 point dedeuction and them having not won, being bottom of the league and us top makes for possible trouble so he shouldn't have been surprised if the game was a bit physical so should have been prepared to clamp down early with a few cautions.
As regards the offside it is close but it does look onside. He made a great decision (when looking at it neutrally) when flagging Joseph Mills onside in the first half. The assessor would have been in the dressing room at the end of the game with the DVD and all close incidents are discussed with the referee and assistants and if the assistants get one wrong, escpecially tight offside calls, their mark will not get above 59. So if he has made a mistake he will know about it and his average will suffer. All teams suffer bad calls so we can't bang on like we're the only club who gets bad calls. We'll have some that go for us and not against and I don't think anyone will be moaning about them! Still, a bad decision I agree...
  • interesting insight, cheers Spankie

    ..........

True, and you have to be philosophical and appreciate that the bad decisions that go against you will balance out the bad decisions that benefit you. You just have to hope that they don't come at vital points in the game and cost points.

This however wasn't a bad decision but an absolute howler. I could understand it if Burton was close/level but when the ball was played he was well on-side.

    C'est la vie...
  • Lookinf again clearly Onside. As for some tough tackles going unpununished Richardson 2nd half lunge was lucky not to be straight red.
One thing came out of this game , if the opposition want to mix it , we can hold our own and dish some out too.
