A good news story

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
I was contacted two weeks ago by a fan I know who works in a home for children who have been abused and neglected.

He wanted to bring one of the boys to the Southampton game so via Wendy Perfect and Lisa Squires some tickets were sorted out.

Anyway got this email this morning.

Just a quick email to say THANK YOU so, so much for the tickets on Saturday. I and the lad I brought to the valley are so grateful. He has had a quite horrific start to his young life and trips like this are such a treat for him, he had a wonderful time and despite being born and bred in Newcastle I think I can persuade him to become a member of the Charlton 'family'. He even said 'we' when talking about Charlton on the way back to the care home!

I think it was the first of many, thanks again.

I did joke that having already had such a rough time was it right to inflict being a Charlton supporter on the poor lad but while we are all quick to point out what the Club does wrong I think we should also remember what it does well.

  • I think you are missing the real meaning of this story, how does someone that cruel get to look after such abused children?

Fair play to the club though, keeping up to their own high standards as always
  • I think it is more that having been a Charlton fan he knows about suffering ; - )

I'm joking of course as I know you were CFGS. If only the worst these kids had seen was a couple of relegations. Unfortunately not the case by a long way.
  • He must have suffered a terrible home life to end up this far away from it, parents are the guardians of the future and all that and anyone who enjoys destroying what they have created deserves to have the ability removed
  • Things like this make you realise how lucky you have been in life compared to some poor bastards out there.

As the old saying goes, you need to have a license for a dog but anyone can have a child.

I hope that the poor lad involved gets some joy from the mighty Addicks and that it helps him turn his life around.
  • Wendy and Lisa are bothe legends and work bloody hard on things like this glad the lad enjoyed himself shame bout the result though :-)
  • Its good to read stuff like this Henry.

Not only does it make you proud of what the club does in our community but also show's the healing power of football.
  • A pat on the back to all involved.
    well done.
