Parky Today....

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
First off, good game over both halves I think a draw was fair.
I thought Parky was outstanding today, we were getting kicked about in the 1st half, at half time he had a choice, change it about our give them a talking to. He obviously chose the latter, we came out giving it back. Great stuff, also 'cos they gave us no time on the ball in the first half he stretched the game, the defence did not push up as much he shoved Jonjo further forward, this gave the rest more time on the ball, and we played creative football, not head tennis as in the first half. Good sound tactics. I take it back Parky you have proved me wrong, you can motivate and you have a good tactical head on your shoulders.

Men of the Match: Parky and Deon Burton.

  • spot on from the 2nd half, thought he could have tried to get the point about passing the ball more in the first half across without there being a need for halftime.

but doing very very well so far in selection tactics and team talks
  • Bang on. Thought tactically he got it pretty much spot on in the second half - though I would have brought McLeod on for the last ten minutes to run at them. Also, Burton was outstanding again today - grafted, won plenty in the air against a much bigger opponent and held the ball up well as usual. Went with a mate, she hasn't seen us play with Burton before (didn't go the whole of last season) and she said it was obvious how much of a difference it made to have a hold-up player up front who runs their nuts off and uses the ball effectively - unlike M Bent (lazy and shit) or Varney (headless chicken)

Did you just refer to Varney as a hold up player? He was an all out striker mis managed by pukedew and lost his confidence!
  • I must say that I thought Parky done well but the last 5 minutes he could have brought on McLeod to try and give thier defence something to worry about. Rather it was Sot'on who brought on 3 subs and had much more energy than us in the last 5.
  • Erm Varney managed to mismanage the only decent one on one chances the team carved out. That was plain old down to Varney himself.
  • sorry dazzler varney was out of his depth mentally and football wise
  • Varney was never a 2.5m player.

He couldn't deal with the price tag or the expectation.

The only mismanagement was not dropping 5-6 games before he was eventually left out. By my reckoning he was missing atleast one clear cut chance per game at the end.
  • I can't find in myself to criticise Varney, he tried and did his best.

Still there were those two goals against Palace.
  • Garry Nelson-lite innit

and Hudson at the other end was giving away one clear cut chance a game but nobody seemed to criticises him much and what about Burton? Only in the last game of the season did we start playing to his strengths! Varney was better than mcleod and dickson from what i saw but that's all down to opinions I guess!

  • I think there was plenty of criticism of Hudson.

No. No I didn't. I did refer to him as someone who played up front though. You wouldn't disagree with that would you?

There certainly was from my seat. Don't think I was in the minority either. He was shit.
  • Of course not misinterpreted what you said mr Ambrose I apologise :o)
  • This was very similar to the Orient game, where we were hustled out of the game 1st half, but came back strong second, except of course we won and Orient are not as good a team as Southampton, who were strong and physical. Well done Parky.
  • yep agree with this, awful first half but a completely different team in the second and should've won fairly easily I think....stone wall pen on Lloyd and I suspect TV will prove that one of the offside goals was incorretly chalked off.

I'd have also bought on McCleod for the last 10/15 to give their back 4 something else to worry about (probably in place of Lloyd instead of Waggy)
  • anyone else notice how at the end he walked off without even looking at pardew let alone shaking his hand!
  • He also went mad celebrating the goal as well
  • And when he appealed for the penalty he had just opened a bottle of water and as he threw his arms in the air it went all over him much to the amusement of sodje who then offered him a towel! he wasn't amused though lol. can you guess i sat right near the dugout today?
  • I wonder if Pards has been a bit of a dick to Phil since he was sacked or if there was an incident or something and Phil just forewent the pleasantries. Maybe AP rang him and asked if he could have is "Super" back and Phil wouldn't give it.

  • there was definitely no love lost today between them, infact i don't there was ever eye contact the whole afternoon
  • He absolutely soaked himself with the water bottle. And Kins had to sheepishly remove it from the pitch.
His half time team talk seemed to work and if the officials had done their jobs half as good as he did then we would have taken all 3 points. Stonewall pen, the guy was all over Lloyd and not so sure that the 2nd disallowed goal was offside at all.

    Overall, good job Parky.

Heard today that parky and pardew have not spoken since the day Pardew got his marching orders so all that crap about me and phil have spoken each day is rubbish.

Why are we talking about Varney in this thread? And also had a pratt behind me slagging off Burton. Did my nut in.
  • suggests Parky was the boards man, have to say Pards seemed to keep a relatively low profile today, was nice to vent at him and I don't feel so much anger/hate towards him now, he looked like a whippet that has been kicked a lot.

Believe me when i say this, FACT.

well i dont believe you if Pardew says he speaks to Phil regularly then it must be true i mean he told us he plays free flowing attack minded football, that his teams finsih strongly, that hudson was premiership stand and that Varney was going to be superb, did i mention that he says he is fooking great as well ;-)
