Have we got our Charlton back?

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
We sang for it, just wondered what the general feeling is now. I'm sitting in the guarded optimism block.

  • Not yet but it's starting to feel that way!
  • What IS our Charlton? Six wins in a row doesn't sound like the kind of Charlton I've been supporting all this time!

    LOL

7 league wins in a row if you count Norwich last season. Only five more to equal the record : )
  • Wasnt it great the way we totally bossed Brentford. 15 passes for the second goal. Magic !
  • Not yet as a lot of the first team haven't been at the club that long and only time can help build up real affection for the club.

The starting 11 seems to have a better attitude from last season, I think the signings of Daily, Richardson and Llera have added some guts and passion that we lacked last season.

So if the team’s affection for the club, passion, hard work and guts keep increasing we will get the Charlton I loved back on the pitch, and if we keep winning that will also help.
  • Yes and no.

Charlton are winning, and actually playing good football.

But as for "our Charlton" or "the Charlton way" no I don't think that we have it back as the supporters have been completely shut out by the board over the last year, and are becoming even more distant. we used to be praised for our links between board and fans, alas that is a long way from being back. (at least, IMHO)
  • I think we are close to it, not just the winning streak but a team of players who want to be there on sensible wages, many of whom developed or brought on at least by the club if not local talent. perhaps sometimes you have to clear out the team to this extent after what happened to our wage structure and playing staff in the prem years and fall out.
  • I think yes.....

Its been great... and the fact that old Jonjo is gonna do the golf swing celebration is further eveidence....

push on.... and we could be in for a great year...

It's certainly begin to feel like it .....

Some of the criticsm of the Board may seem justified - but it has ever been thus at Charlton, through the years.

Did the Gliksten family ever liase with the fans - or John Fryer of Sunleys consult with us about abandoning The Valley and moving to Selhurst .....?

    I don't think so.

Roger Alwen, Martin Simons, Richard Murray and co. started something special with their openess and willingness to involve supporter representation at Board level. Maybe we just took it for granted in the end ....?

And when the supporter base became hugely critical, whether justified or not, they closed ranks.
Wouldn't you if you were under siege ......?
  • It's a work in process...we aren't there yet, but are well on the way.

You make a good point. We need to see who the new Board is and what their attitude is towards the fans, before we can really celebrate. But the fact that we are even able to ask the question is down to Parky, and in April I would never in my wildest dreams have beiieved I would ever write that.
