quiz help please, who is this?

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
• I started in the same place as Alesha D.
• And I’ve been a bit Spicy at times.
• Yet in several ways I’ve been a model professional.
• For example I’ve seen more of the Premier League than most.
• Now, as I have a place in Devon, you could say I live in the sticks.
• Though I might yet again “experiment” with my hairstyle.
• On the move? - I’m into Raleigh Choppers and Action Men.
• Gareth Malone’s new TV series makes me recall my first big club.
• Some think I’m uncertain, but I’ve said “For any budding penalty takers out there, your best bet is to smash it as hard as you can.”
• So be positive: despite my nickname I wouldn’t avoid any Jane

    Clearly this is Archbishop Makarios.
    • I started in the same place as Alesha D. First initial - A
    • And I’ve been a bit Spicy at times. Makarios was a proponent of Cyprus' relations with Greece - a country known for its production of basil, thyme, fennel, cinnamon, cloves and other herbs and spices.
    • Yet in several ways I’ve been a model professional. At the Pancyprian Gymnasium, Makarios was a model student, stuying for his religious vocation, or profession.
    • For example I’ve seen more of the Premier League than most. Clearly a reference to the Taksim (= Shinawatra)
    • Now, as I have a place in Devon, you could say I live in the sticks. His goal was to achieve Cypriot independence, which he achieved. So he could have claimed to be living in his goal (or, using a football term for goal, "the sticks")
    • Though I might yet again “experiment” with my hairstyle. In his formal garb, his head was covered, but was able to show off hair by growing a beard.
    • On the move? - I’m into Raleigh Choppers and Action Men. Chopper = helicopter, clearly a reference to Mount Helios in Greece; and he called men to action (= Action Men) by becoming both the religious and political leader of his country.
    • Gareth Malone’s new TV series makes me recall my first big club. Gareth Malone is a choirmaster. Choirs sing in churches. Clearly a reference to the highest role in the church on Earth, ie Archbishop
    • Some think I’m uncertain, but I’ve said “For any budding penalty takers out there, your best bet is to smash it as hard as you can.” "Hard" and "smash are clearly references to Field Marshall Sir John Harding's rule over Cyprus at the time Makarios was Archbishop.
    • So be positive: despite my nickname I wouldn’t avoid any Jane Makarios was known as the "primate" of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, which clearly means he would not avoid a Jane (reference to Tarzan and Jane characters)
  • It's Victoria Beckham.
