Lloyd Sam - what a nice fella

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
I stayed for a few (too many) beers after the match with some mates in Bartram's. As I was leaving he came out of the players' entrance and Lloyd Sam came out carrying a bottle of Champers and his Sky POM award. A few teenagers asked for his autograph and a photo with him on their mobiles. He was happy to oblige and was grinning from ear to ear. He left his family/mates waiting for him in the car park.

I gave him a quick handshake and said well deserved for the POM award and he seemed genuinely touched. He is a top man, very humble.

Hope he carries on improving - Parky has some great people working for him and he looks like he can get the best from them.

  • Met him at the POTY do in April:
    Agreed, a genuine nice fella.

He came across as a very warm, friendly character when being interviewed with Christian Dailly, and collecting hs Sky POM - little bit nervous, grinning from ear to ear ..... you couldn't help but take a liking to him.

I'm so pleased for him that he's getting a bit of recognition.
  • Lovely to hear that. Sometimes we're in danger of thinking that everybody in football is like Jerome Thomas or Marcus Bent. He sounds an absolutely top lad and that makes me enjoy his success in the last two games even more...

    Thanks for posting that, JC...
  • Everyone who meets him says he's a lovely fella and that being smile is his trademark now

pleased for him - hope it continues
  • Yep, what Nigel said, especially as I'd given up on him a year or so ago.

I believe he is now the longest serving member of the squad.
  • Why haven't we got a song for him....?

Clearly a confidence player, so let's build him up big. He'll be a world-beater at this level.
(erm .....can you be a world-beater in the Third division....?)

Yes, if we arrange a match against the Italian national team, and win
  • He was called up to a Ghana squad with Dickson a few weeks ago but wasn't released as he was carrying an injury.
They've now qualified for the World Cup...
  • Great to hear that Jorge - and well done for congratulating him.

Got a feeling he is going to have a great season - when I saw him against Ipswich in the friendly he was mustard and I thought 'blimey, he's upped his game!'.

    Come on super Sam!
  • tried to put something together for a song..........

Many grounds has he travelled, Many games has he played, playing for Charlton my favourite team. Many hours have I spent in the covered end choir, Singing Valley, Lloyd Sam, My only desire.
Valley, Lloyd sam, The mist rolling in from the Thames, My desire, Is always to see score at the Valley, Lloyd sam.

well it was worth a try.........

Okay, perhaps we should be singing ".... Lloyd Sam, my only desire" ..........?
  • Wooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - Lloyd Sam is on Fire!
  • Parky helped him get his confidence back last season, and he ended the season as a regular. I hoped we'd get his best out of him regularly at this level, and possibly add a few goals, so far he has done that.
  • "Wooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - Lloyd Sam is on Fire! "

Got to be this.....that's a winner
  • I thought it was

Lloyd Sam, theres only one Lloyd Sam, theres only one Lloyd Sam, theres only one Lloyd Sam

Or have I missed the point somewhere?

That chant is pretty generic, I think they mean a proper chant.
  • Lloyd Sam, Lloyd Sam
    Running down the wing
    Lloyd Sam, Lloyd Sam
    Running down the wing
    Jinks to the left
    Jinks to the right
Lloyd Sam, Lloyd Sam, Lloyd Sam

To the old Robin Hood theme tune and via Ryan Giggs
  • Or

He spins defenders right round, Right round
    Like a record baby
    Lloyd Sam, Lloyd Sam
He spins defenders right round, right round

From Flo RIder (for the kids) Dead or Alive (for the oldies)
  • He won the Killer Clan over at the sponsers dinner with that grin. Especially after we'd told him our family nickname for him courtesy of KB's youngest! I'm sure you won't hear Sam Lloyd disagreeing either, it was lovely to see how genuinely pleased he was to see her that night. An absolutely lovely fella x

  • To the tune of Telegram Sam;

Terrorizing Sam, your my main man (repeat).

Please replace terrorizing with anything more imaginative or fitting.
  • this season will hopefully give sam the confidence to perform at a higher level and more consistently (for us!)
  • according to wikipedia, 'he holds the West African Schools’ record for the 100m. And the 200m. And 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 4x100m relay and the long jump'.
  • something to the tune of Go West by the Pet Shop Boys, for example -
