Could this team become a legendary charlton side?

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
At the risk of getting carried away at a very good, historic no less, start to this season I just wonder if we aren't at the beginning of something pretty promising here.
The way we are shifting the ball round at the moment and the team mentality is almost rather disorientating after some of the stuff we saw last season.
But we look so composed on the ball throughout the team. Semedo Racon Shelvey Bailey Sam will we be happily recalling that midfield line up in years to come?
Time will tell don't want to get carried away just yet but it crossed my mind more than once today.
That's not to forget the rest of the team, thought Youga was really good today. Looks a bit like a young Chris Powell at times. Richardson continues to impress at the back and going forward.
We look good.

  • no, not unless we get someone that will sort out his team mates when, like today, it turns into a training outing once they realise they've got it in the bag...winners want to win, not take the piss out of the opposition...elliot and the woodwork saved the rest from some serious embarrassment...we were far superior but we didn't kill the game off...

    What?

Don't know about the legendary team bit, but I didn't see anyone taking the piss, they were a half decent team and were always going to have some chances and a decent spell during the game, thought we were comfortable, how often in the last couple of years could you say that?

You've made a very good point there, mate.

We should have killed the game off early in the 2nd half, especially with the brilliantly worked chances presented to Jonjo and Burton, which I'm sure would have been put away another day.

And, generally speaking, we never seemed to get out of 2nd gear ...... it often felt to me that we could have, and should have stepped up and turned the screw. We just seemed to lack the killer instinct to go for the jugular.

But let's give a bit of credit to Brentford - they certainly gave us a game today, very combatative, did their best to close us down all over the park ..... refused to roll over and just kept going right to the final whistle.

Certainly gave us our toughest game so far.

But the bottom line, we only had 4 shots on target, never really worked their keeper.

In the event, it was enough though .... and maybe we should also bear in mind that Richardson, Semedo and Racon all played with injuries, Perhaps Parky's instruction at 2-0 up was to take no risks defensively and ensure those playing with injury were supported ?

Anyway, not meant to be critical, because 6 wins out of 6 games, 18 points in the bag, plus 12 goal difference and top of the League already 5 points clear of the 3rd placed club ........ is frickin AWESOME!
  • It's early days yet and i think we need to be tested with some better opostion, and i also agree with oggy we do need to kill the game off. This is a young side who can play some lovely passing football,we also have a great midfield. Am pleased that Jonjo signed for a bit longer. Will be brilliant if we can take Southampton Apart.
  • Still early days for this current team. Still getting to know each other so heady stuff for them as individuals. Much more to come I'm sure and good to see Parky experimenting with a different formation/players towards the end. Real test will come when they have to recover from a defeat. Hopefully not for a while yet though!
  • Long way to go as said, but it's the closest we've looked to the sort of team we had around 10 years ago in a while.
