August player of the month - poll on OS

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
On the main page, bottom right. Over 2,000 votes so far, Semedo with 34%, Burton and Llera on 33%.

I was thinking of voting for Semedo, but for me Burton gets my vote, 3 assists and 3 goals in 6 games, great hold up play, work rate, team work and intelligience.

Semedo, Dailly, Sam and Richardson have all done very well, rest have all been reliable, every first 11 player has had a good month, even Youga really.

  • I'm inclined to agree with you Scoham .......Semedo has been such an important cog in the wheel, winning possession, and brilliantly effective with his interaction with team mates and simple passing.

But Burton has the thankless and to me more arduous and difficult task, often ploughing that lone furrow.
To play with his back to goal, with donkey defenders clambering over his back, yet still holding posession until support comes - he reminds me a bit of Shaun Bartlett. And 3 goals, 3 assists proves that he's doing his job extremely well.

So Burton just edges it for me.

    .................

Isn't this just for performances in August rather than to date? If so then today's match shouldn't influence any decision...

Who to award my vote to...hmmm, is there a team option? They all deserve it.
  • Good point, BFR ..... 2 goals in 5 games for Burton, only August counts.

I like the idea of a team vote for PoM for August.

This is indeed one occasion when the team as a unit deserve it.
  • Don't like having to choose, but I went for a Burton for same reasons as above.

Yeah good point, 2 assists, 2 goals in 5 games. Still think he just about deserves it. He had a lot to do to win over the fans, not many appreciated what he could offer because he doesn't score goals in the Championship.

I don't think of him as up front on his own, he just doesn't have an out and out striker next to him. Jonjo drops deep, moves out wide, gets back, though he does give Burton support. In fact I'm sure you've said it yourself before, it's not a flat five man midfield.

But yeah, first time in a long while we've had a month in which the team deserve it.

This season, we've been seeing the stability and benefits of playing an unchanged team for 6 consecutive matches.
Maybe we've been a little more fortunate than some teams with injuries, etc - but nevertheless, no tinkering with the line up.

If only our estwhile friend Super Al had been similarly decisive when he was here.
