Looking at the replay he was very tight to the last Brentford defender but that linesman was not giving us anything, no benefit of doubt as far as he was concerned. I'd have to look at it again but if he was offside then it was by a hairs breadth.

Yep it was close, not like it was an outrageous decision or anything but as you say, no benefit of the doubt given.
Blonde moment from Dowie there on Gillete Soccer Saturday 'they've kept there main players, Shelvey, Bailey and ... Sodje'.. doesn't deserve to be on TV that lump tbh.
Watched on TV, we were comfortable though Brentford gave us probably our biggest test so far, a decent team at this level.
Our quality showed though and we passed the ball well, very well at times.
Big match against Southampton next week as Pardew will no doubt get his team up for it. Even with their record so far, our best games when he was here were against West Ham and Reading.
Good to see McLeod score, even if it was offside. Another day it would have been given, it was that close. He's ideal for bringing on if we're ahead and defending a lead.
[cite]Posted By: Chaz Hill[/cite]Just looking at the match stats. 13 corners given away! What's that all about?
Brentford look a decent team. In comparison to say Walsall who didn't seem to have any players that could do much going forward.
Even though we didn't score in the second half, there were passages of play that were absolutely fantastic, really excellent team play, confidence to hold and pass, make runs and see the options and use them....easily the best performance I've seen this year, added to which Robbie made a stunning save (looked a certain goal) a save that guaranteed the points, and I had 2-0 at 6-1.
Another thing, Semedo was good again. Was back defending and covering which won't happen with two of Bailey, Shelvey or Racon together in the middle. He's there to defend, the others aren't lazy but more likely to get forward, we have a good balance with Semedo and Racon together.
Brentford fought for everything in the midfield, tried to close us down and frequently denied us space and time on the ball.
And did they work hard in warm sunshine.
But we always looked like we had something to spare, and when we got the ball down on the floor, we looked different class.
Sometimes you feel, if only we upped our game a notch, we would murder these sides 5-0, because our football at times can be so superior. But we are a little profligate with chances.
Definitely should have killed the game off 3-0 or 4-0 by early 2nd half - but credit to Brentford, they just never gave up - and they should have taken a chance or 2 late on.
Robbie completely missed a corner which he should have dealt with, but otherwise very assured, and a cracking one handed save when it was needed.
Richardson worked his flank like a winger, and defended solidly as well.
Really linked up well with Sam, who put in a terrific performance especially in the 1st half.
Dailly always the spare man at the back, always in the right place, looked quality. Llera always had his body in the way, sometimes a bit clumsy - but with a "thou shalt not pass" mentality.
I thought Youga played very well today, looked accomplished at times - and no more mistakes than anybody else.
Racomedo worked in tandem effectively, and lots of our moves started with one of them winning a tackle, neat interchange, and a simple ball to feet. They are the principle reason we keep so much quality possession.
Bailey frequently jinked past his man and cut inside like the natural winger he's not.
Jonjo just covered every blade of grass, nice touches and intelligent reading of the game. He'll kick himself for not scoring but all part of his education.
Burton worked his socks off, often ploughing a lone furrow - and so pleased that he added to his tally, after Sam's quick thinking.
Waggy - I'm afraid he barely seemed to register - although he kept the shape well and worked hard.
Izale - Only on the pitch for 10 mins, but very useful sub performance - good curling shot clawed away by the keeper.
And very unlucky to have his goal ruled out, quality composed and neat finish - but TV replay showed he made his run just a split second before the ball was passed, so yes, technically offside but only by a whisker.
Very impressed, and when we passed it around simply a different class in this league, Sam, Shelvey and the team again played well. Thought that Brentford were a good counter attacking team , that should have made more of there chances, and played much better second half. I thought our second goal was superb, one of the best team goals I have seen in many a time at Charlton. If this was Arsenal all the pundits would be saying goal of the day. The last two games to me at home have seen an immense improvement in recent month's. Another excellent team performance, and even thought that Parky's subs timing today was spot on, and good to see the crowd applauding Lloyd, an immense improvement on last season.
good test for us today and we got thru it , brentford will be pushing for the play-offs and on another day may have got a point from us ...
kelly youga played the best i've seen of him and izales little cameo was impressive and rob elliot made an incredible reflex stop with 12 or so minutes left that would have meant a nervy finish..
most enjoyable game that i've seen this season a decent contest and some quality on show
well pleased... just 40 more to go!
Have to agree with what Oggy said. We look like we could step it up a level, but we were comfortable enough not to need to.
Edit: Not wrong about McLeod, though I still don't think he's a Championship player. Like I said though, useful sub in this league when we're defending and opposition are tiring.
I suspect McLeod knows that with McKenzie on the scene that opportunities may be few and far between, he was unlucky with the offside goal but it was a good decision from the linesman, but he looked a handful from the moment he came on and injected some much needed pace as we were flagging a bit and running out of ideas.

Hi Scoham ...... I've always felt that the achilles heel of McLeod's game was his lack of composure caused by a chronic lack of self-belief. If he's now learning to toughen up mentally, gets a couple of composed finishes under his belt - I think he'll blossom as man and player, in the same way he did in his 24-goal season at MK Dons.
If he can pick up a few goals this season, he might make a decent Championship player yet!
One other point ...... it seems our resident psychologist Dr Parkinson, is still playing the mind games thing.
He's signed Leon McKenzie, apparently not risked on the bench straightaway - and McLeod knows that he's got to prove that he's not going to be the player to surrender his place on the bench.

It looks like you just beat me to it, BFR ..... ;o)
I'd agree, always seemed to be his confidence and belief that was the main problem, which then caused a lack of composure. He had a similar goal disallowed at Bournemouth in pre-season.
I won't write him off yet, but he's still got a lot to prove. He'll never do the sort of things Burton does, but he will be a useful player to bring on at this level.
And yeah it's good to see that from Parky, he should now have McLeod, Tuna, McKenzie and ideally Dickson fighting for 2 spots on the bench. Hopefully the same will happen with Wagstaff and Holden, and it's surely been going on this season with Solly and Basey.
First half we was a class above, some of the pasing was awsume, both goals were good goals, esp the 2nd when we must have had 30/35 passes of the ball, knocked it around the park really well all game to be fair, tried a number of diff things, nice triangles aswell as through balls, switchin sides, even good long balls.
2nd half although seemed comfortable wasnt pretty, semedo/racon dropped back to much and Brenford really pushed on, good cameo from Izale, helped stretch them a little with his pace and power, did great to create a chance for himself and his offside goal looked like it shoudl have stood (not seen the reply yet thou)
Special note, Youga - could not believe this is the same player as last season, prob the best iv seen him play, really assured on the ball in deffence and going forward.
Elliot - 2 great saves 1 world class save, but was worried everytime he came for and then missed crosses
Youga - Really good game, not one mistake
Llera - love his commitment but he's an accident waiting to happen, and does love to hit the deck at every opportunity, still seemed to win every head
Dailey - Assured and sensible at back, deff added that calming presence back there, positionally excellent
Richardson - Good going forward but deffensively thought he wasnt great 2day, skinned far to often, but he never gave up and worked hard throughout
Sam - Another goal, great finish, and an assit, put in numerous quality balls in box, not sure what else you can ask for, was a threat all game and their LB mustve been chuft to see him subbed, ran him ragged, MOM
Bailey - Captain fantastic, ran, ran and ran, good game works well with youga, drifted inside with racon covering out wide, some good surging runs at their RB
Racon - first half great 2nd half lost his way a little, sat back, still great with ball at his feet, works well with semedo in centre
Semedo - Broke up play well, passing was excellent, sat too deep in 2nd half though
Shelvey - Covered every blade of grass, boy does he run, where ever the ball was Jonjo was nearby, some passes were equisite, maybe should have hit target with a few of his shots, cheeky 40 yrd chip was unlucky, good performance
Burton - Neon Deon, good to see him get a goal, could and maybe should have got a 2nd but great all round play really how he wins every ball pumped towards him is beyond me.
Wagstaff - ok, was kinda playin match out when he was introduced, shouldve gambled a little more with his runs, but looked good with ball at his feet
Izale - Pace and strength in abundance, not seen reply but looked like goal should have stood, created another great chance, looked lively, would like see him maybe get half hour or more in future.
Parky, cant complain substitutions were timed well injected a bit of much needed pace without changing shape of team, not seen his post match comments yet but you cant not like the guy, has got us playin some wonderful stuff and for large parts of the game
Just adding to Scruffle's comments about Parky ......he has got us playing some wonderful stuff - at times the passing is sublime considering the level we're at, the team is playing like a team and the so necessary mental strength is there too.
We're no doubt not quite the finished article just yet, a little way from being perfect ........ but a lot more perfect than most teams we'll meet in the Third Division.
So it's up to Parky to ensure we're not out-thought and out-fought.
And so far, he's well on course.

Im just impressed with the sustained amount of pressure we seem to put down at will, over the last few seasons we've looked awsume for 4/5 min spells (and then so often eneded up not scoring and conceding!!) but now we control the ball for 10/15 min spells sometimes a whole half!! and these spells always create chances and so far this season most importantly goals.
Right now we look a class apart from any other team in the league. Brentford were the best team we've played - and played some good football today keeping their shape well and maybe on another day might have snatched a goal. Even when they had a spell of pressure in the second half - hitting the post, Elliott's great save etc I still thought we had something to spare.
The football we are playing is a real bonus. Getting the ball on the floor, passing and moving is what we wanted in the Prem when Curbs left.
Last season I stopped caring as much about how we were playing. Now Parky has raised the expectations, we expect to win and play good football. We mix it up well, it's not all short passing, we use long balls and crosses at times to good effect.
Big game next week as Pardew did well for us against his old clubs.
Comments
Well done Charlton. Come on you goal scoring, non conceeding Addicks !!!!

well pleased... just 40 more to go!
considering in my opinion we did not have 1 player today above a 6 out of 10 that was a comfortable win.
MOM for me dailey
When a tiring Jonjo was pulled off with 10 mins to go and putting on Izzy, Parky more or less reverted to 4-4-2.
I also thought Izzy did very well when he come on, a handful for defenders on the edge of the box, kept possession well enough and decent control.
And brought a good save from the keeper with a teasing curling shot that was goal bound.
It's a shame for him that his offside goal didn't stand ..... it had all the hallmarks of a Darren Bent finish, very decisive, very composed.
Well done, McLeod. You looked very much the player that Pardew must have seen when he watched your Youtube video.
Edit: Not wrong about McLeod, though I still don't think he's a Championship player. Like I said though, useful sub in this league when we're defending and opposition are tiring.
