Can parky guide us to promotion?

edited September 2009 in General Charlton
I personally believe he is the man for the job! He attacks at home and away and sorted out our leaky defense issues

  • Yes, he can.
  • I really believe he can but more importantly the players believe he can
  • And proven at colchester, but the thing is IF we do go up can he keep us up?

    Or get us promoted again
  • I didn't want to go too far! Let's just get promoted this season first lol x
  • His conduct through the summer and all the continuing uncertainty has persuaded me there's a lot to this bloke. And I think it reflects well on the board for sticking with him too - turning a failing team around is like turning an oil tanker, but after a slow start (to say the least!)the fella seems to have got everything right since the end of last season. I like the way he talks, and he seems to have bound the team together, even though his budget is almost nil.
I think Pardew left us decimated, and Parky has had to stop the rot before starting to build. Cant fault him so far this year.
  • If you look at the whole division then Philip Parkinson has as much chance as the best of the rest, and a much better chance than most.
  • I'm sure that Parky will be fine as I stated over the summer. There were many doom mongers on this site and on the O.S giving him dogs abuse. He has gone about his work with no fuss and certainly no moaning unlike AP for most of the time that he was in charge.

He knows his starting 11 and will I'm sure stick to it unless suspensions or injuries come knocking at the door. For too long we all turned up hoping to play well yet now we expect to play well. We are being entertained which is most definatly a good thing. How many seasons do we need to go back to find the last time that that was happening. I would say at least 5 years. Yes mid table in the premiership was fantastic but was it entertaining towards the end of Curbs' reign? That does not mean that Curbs was dull, just that it went a bit wrong after Scotty left and Curbs' enthusiasm seemed to go.

We will lose games and as soon as we do I'm sure that some will say " Told you Parky was no good" but he has rebuilt this team with zero money and turned them into an efficient and entertaining unit and long may it last.

Yes. Why not. Many clubs that go up go onto do fairly well, mid table safety at least. It's the smaller clubs like Scunthorpe that have struggled.

The idea that he just can't handle Championship football is based on one 6 month spell at Hull, and clearing up Pardew's mess. Maybe Hull weren't the right club for him? No doubt he's learnt a lot since then.

And with us, like I've said before we probably don't realise how low confidence was and how many other problems there may have been at the club. We've heard rumours of cliques, many people say the players never looked fit enough, we had too many loanees all here for different reasons. It does take time to fix problems like that. Last season we were still thinking we were a Premier League club, when in fact we had an average at best Championship squad with no confidence, a dodgy defence, too many midfielders and no goalscorers. Most of the problems have since been fixed, at least improved.

It's a long way to go, but we now look like a team, work hard and play good football. A huge improvement on last season, it's a lower league yes but we've done all we can so far.
