Are we in a promotion race yet ?

edited August 2009 in General Charlton
Are we in in a promotion race yet ? Or am I just getting prematurely excited?

3 games = 3 wins and 9 points.

We're one of 3 teams with 100% records.

Parky wins 3 on the trot, we even come from behind to win the game - something we probably haven't done since 1976.

Have we got our old Charlton back .... ?

  • Not yet, but gone as good as it could so far!

One step at at a time I think!
  • Long way to go but the perfect start. Still need strengthen the squad, at least at centre back, just not good enough cover at the moment.
  • I'm gonna wait until we play some stronger teams before getting carried away. The 3 games we've played so far are against sides I expect to be in a relegation battle this season.

    Praps, you never know.

Someone has to get promoted - why not us.

Long long long way to go yet, let's see where we are in October.

BUT fantastic start to the season was just what we needed. It may be League 1 , we may not be mixing it in the top flight, but it's GREAT to be mixing it at the top of our league.
  • I know ...... I'm not really getting carried away, but well chuffed to come from behind to win tonight.
But we're stacking up the points in a perfect start.

We're right up there in a breakaway 3 at the top of the table - and must make sure we not brought down to earth with a bump v Walsall on Saturday. So it's all about consistancy.

But credit where it's due. And credit to Parky too, because many would never have forecast 3 wins including 2 tricky games away from home in 4 days.

And now a quick word from new Saints manager Super Alan Pardew ...........
  • We played very well in the 2nd half the midfield is the key.if we keep them together all season we won't be out of the top 6. I reckon Semedo will be the main man for us this season, if plays the majority of games then we will go up.

The promotion campaign started with the first match of the season.

I think Racon will be our main man. Sure we need Semedo to break up the opposition's attacks etc and stop our defence getting overly exposed, but we have to score goals to win games and that means making the most of the possession we get and that's where Racon pays his way.
  • 84 more points and we are champs!

It's really about the four all working together. Sam offers width, Bailey gets goals and protects Youga, our weakest link, Racon and Semedo can defend and Racon will get the odd goal, very comfortable taking the ball forward (how many CMs have we had recently that can do that? Zheng could, that's about it) and passes the ball well. Got a bit of everything in there and there's no weak link or lazy player that the other three have to carry.
  • Yep, I agree, it's a team game after all, but I think that Racon will be the main string puller in midfield.

I know what you mean, our of the four he's the most all round player I'd say. Bailey might be the best when it comes to work rate but Racon has that bit more class on the ball.
  • Great three points no doubt and a very decent 2nd half but the first 45 minutes we were definitely 2nd best. Played too deep and Racon and Bailey were anonamous. Hope the 1st half was down to nerves and hopefully that will resolve itself with a string of wins. Need cover very badly indeed. before we scored the goals I looked at the bench and thought nobody there who could make a difference. Thats a worry. But 9 points from three is fantastic.
  • Walsall are consistently a mid table / top half team in this league and thus will be a useful guide to how we might perform over the season as a whole.
  • I did think Racon was a different gravy second half BUT Semedo was out of this world he really was!
  • and Sam disappointed as normal. Will he ever beat a man on the outside again ? Will he ever put in a decent cross again ? A winger ? You're having a laugh. One Lloyd Sam ? Thank gawd I say, you wouldn't want two !!

Is he just lacking that extra bit of confidence? Instead of trying to beat his man and potentially losing the ball, would rather turn back and pass to a player near him?

I have enjoyed the perrormance and the potential of this season so much more than the last two or three of the Prem.

Sitting with the Orient I may be slightly different in my views, but the 1st half was about a relegated team believing it had too much class for its lesser opponents and not putting in the effort. Orient were quicker to the ball, more committed and direct, whereas we were looking for little touches that did not come off so we lost possesion constantly.

In the 2nd half we were more composed, crisper in the pass decisive, on top of that Orient were never going to keep that work rate going for 90 minutes.

he can't play 2 games in the space of 4 days it's been evident for the past 2 years.Everytime time people sing there's only one Lloyd Sam,I sing
LLOYD SAM,THANK FECK THERE'S ONLY ONE LLOYD SAM.He has the potential and opportunity to ripe this league to pieces, let's hope he takes the chance.
  • 3 wins perfect start, however iam taking each game as it comes and really enjoying it.
