This transfer embargo

edited August 2009 in General Charlton
I keep reading comments from others Managers that we are currently under a 'transfer embargo' until the takeover is completed. Is this an official embargo placed on us by the FL or FA, is it a self-imposed embargo or is there really no embargo at all ?

  • can't really say, legal advice and all that.

Sorry Large. My lips are sealed. There's an embargo on talking about the transfer embargo untl after the embargoed takeover has been concluded. Can't tell you when that will be as that info is embargoed, too.

In fact, I'd better put an embargo on myself now as I've probably already told you too much and the embargo enforcement police will be beating down my door any embargoed minute now...
  • Fancy having a transfer embargo during a transfer window. Now that is bluddy stupid.
  • I had lumbago once, is that any help?.....:o)
  • In answer to your question, I imagine it is self-imposed. It's probably what Parky tells the other managers/players.

"Sorry can't conclude any transfers as they are embargoed until the takeover happens (or doesn't)"
  • In all cases of a takeover I think there is a transfer embargo.
Something to do with not knowing whose money you're spending untill it's complete. That might be over simplified but as close as i can make it.
  • hasn't stopped pompey selling players (Crouch being one)

    try again !
  • I like um bongo .... if that helps...
  • [cite]Posted By: floydandharvey[/cite]I invented a cockamatail called a Rum Bongo (dark rum, sherry, pineapple juice and cointreau) that sells by the bucketload in my mate's pubs. FILL YOUR BOOTS BABY.

    Sounds blinding Floyd.....

Is this based on Simon Davey or are there other managers that have said this?

Davey said it, Tisdale too I think but most reports re Gray mention an embargo. Just wondered that's all.
  • Presumably if it was an FL imposed embargo, it wouldn't prevent us selling players as the FL impositions are in place to stop extra spending when spending has exceeded income and HM Revenue is getting twitchy. So for me, it looks more like an internal agreement which is causing PP a lot of frustration and angst.

Not sure there is an embargo. It has only been mentioned by opposition managers presumably because they are either getting frustrated and using it as an excuse or to put pressure on charlton to do a deal cheaply.
  • If and to be honest its still an IF that there is a TAKE OVER bid then the players are part ofthe overall ASSET value of the club. Therefore selling or buying an asset during a take over is a no no as the total value of the club/busness rises or falls.
  • We have brought in, released and offered players new contracts. A rubbish embargo if you ask me.
