Hope you are all well, I just thought i would pop on here to give you a little bit of information on our little club, Firstly Valleyman is wrong, We have never been a long ball team, We are a passing/winger play team and yes we are physical :).
We were made nailed on relegation candidates due to last season's abysmal performance including the change of manager mid way through a season and a defence that wanted away. As some of you fans pointed out we have now kept 2 clean sheets away from home which none of us Hartlepool fans could have predicted. I am hoping for a decent game of football and i hope your enjoy your day out if you are making the trip.
You have lots of drinking spot venue's which are all away friendly. Right next to the ground we have 3 pubs, The Raglan, The Millhouse and the Corner flag, The latter has a 50p entrance fee so hardly the end of the world.
If it's food your looking for we have a few pubs over in the Historic Quay which is a five minute walk from the ground with plenty of choice, if your not too bothered about a pub meal we have a Morrisons and Asda within 5 minutes walking distance depending how quick you can get from A to B. If your looking for proper wine bars if you follow the road past the traffic lights were the bus drops you off and take a right at the big converted chapel with fountain you will end up at the wine bars and pubs, including Yate's etc.
Safe journey to you guys who make it and i look forward to a chat with some of you and see how your finding League 1 football.
The more competitive games our boys get under their belt the sharper they'll get. We suffered a bit last week when Sam went off, Jonjo was switched out wide and we lost our shape when we wnet 4 4 2. A new day, another chapter and I reckon we'll be on it like the 1st half last week, pressing them on the counter attack and holding onto the ball for longer than them. Question hangs over our cutting edge. I am really beginning to appreciate Burton's efforts, but the bloke needs an open play goal to get him going and I think it will come tomorrow. I make this 2 1 to us, with Burton and Racon on the scoresheet.
If we get a draw we will have done OK, a win we will have done well....and can then afford to lose at Orient, a defeat means we must win at Orient...and Phil will have presided over back to back losses. I know nothing about Hartlepool beyond admiring them because their supporters are not tempted away by the 'big' NE clubs, like Orient in London actually.
Having read what you've written, I really wish I was going now. It sounds like a homely ground with proper pubs nearby - unlike the identikit stadiums in the middle of industrial estates miles from anywhere, which are becoming all too prevalent.
I've seen Charlton play on the grounds of 82 different clubs and Wembley, but I've never been to Hartlepool.
You sound like a friendly bunch of football people.
All the best for your season, except when you play Charlton, of course!
Hartlepool score after 2 mins while our defence are still learning each others names - and Youga wonders what day of the week it is.
Andy Reid will get the equaliser from a direct free-kick on the edge of the box - before beating 3 defenders in a mazy dribble and curling over a peach of a cross for Iwelumo to head a last gasp winner.
"Big Chris in the last minute.....!". Sod it, I can dream can't I .... ?
Think Hartlepool are a really good team and without Sam we really don;t have much going on down the flanks hopefully Small will prove his worth, however i'm going to go 3v1 Hartlepool.
Drawing away from home for Hartlepool is about getting 11 men behind the ball, today, unless they play for a draw they will need to come at us, which could leave openings for us to exploit. And on that note I am going for 1-1!!!
Never usually optomistic but I just can`t see Charlton losing this one. The team that started v WW should be far too strong for Hartlepool. I predict a 0 - 2 win. Should my assessment be wrong and we do lose then I think it will prove we are in for a very rough ride this season.
we have achieved three points, so Philip Parkinson has done very well indeed, it means by my reckoning that providing we win at home to Walsall next saturday, we can lose away at orient and tranmere and still be doing well. Of course, if we win against Orient and Walsall we will have a cushion of four points that means we can lose an away and a home game and still be doing OK......lets roar the team on to a result at Orient....and for me Parkinson is in credit at the moment.
