as with the takeover there is a lot of wild speculation on this thread. No-one here knows if a deal has been done with Barnsley or not, if it has what the fee is, what Gray's wages are with us, what his wages may be at Barnsley, will we be paying some of these wages etc etc. Whilst getting in a lather over whether we paid Burnley 1.5m or 750k and whether Barnsley are paying us 600k or less one thing we can be sure of is that the Club are willing to let a very talented French U-21 RB leave for nothing !! So no worries about us not recovering a slice of the fee there then ?
Sorry, this is all business and negotiation position dressed up as a compassion issue. Gray wants the club he's going to, to pay less money to Charlton and by extension more money to him. We don't want to drop our demands too far (given the already spectacular loss), so I'd say that the onus should be on him, as the party that is under contract to find a solution (2k a week pay reduction should add c. £200k to the fee. I don't think we're being heartless here.
Large - I'm not sure where you've seen a quote saying that M2 will go for free, but even if he does: we're paying his sizeable wages, so getting them off the books, even if there's no fee involved seems smart to me.

We can hardly demand big money for Yassin when we - a Tier Three club - don't even want him ourselves! He's only played about 20 games (if that) over the two years he has been here....
Nothing mate, just making a comment.....people jumping all over this and in reality they dont know anything....so lets wait and see what comes out after its all done and dusted.
Good luck to him, personally I hope it all works ok on and off the pitch for him.
I don't know what this means regarding a T/O - I had the feeling that possibly the hold-up on this deal was down to one or more of McLeod/Dickson/Fleetwood going and us not wanting to be left without a striker if Burton got injured, maybe those three are staying for the forseeable future? Perhaps it means that we'll be signing a new striker next week?
I presume a nod in the direction of Steve Waggott or whoever negotiated this deal is in order too. Just Moo2 to go now...
[cite]Posted By: No.1 in South London[/cite]I thought the Barnsley manager hinted that he was expecting Gray once the takeover went through ? and he was frustrated that it hadn't ?
My only concern is why would the takeover hold anything up on the Gray front?
Takeover doesnt go through .... we need rid of him to get rid of his wages
Takeover does go through ..... We can afford to keep him or strenghen our selling position ie ask for money from Barnsley.
The impression I got was that a fee was already agreed pending the takeover so I dont know if that discounts the takeover being completed option unless Barnsley were thinking that they were only getting him if a fee was involved.
All obviously conjecture but whilst I agree something seems to be about to happen I'm not neccessarily full of confidence. Besides I get the impression that even if it does go thorough it's going to be a ridiculous anticlimax.
I think this means the Takeover has gone through. My guess is that him leaving was contingent upon some kind of deal sweetener from Charlton which was only available with on going funding in place.
Barnsley have signed Andy Gray from Charlton for an undisclosed fee.
The forward joins initially on loan to allow him to face Leicester on Saturday, with a permanent transfer to be completed at the start of next week.
Addicks boss Phil Parkinson told Charlton's official website: "It's no secret that Andy has wanted to go back up north for a while, and we've now managed to work out a deal with Barnsley to suit all parties.
"Andy's always been a good professional, and we wish him all the best."

It depends if you call, not having to sell our best players and maybe bringing one or two more in an "anti-climax". Without additional funding, key players performing well in a winning team will have to be sold. For me that would be a very sad and worrying outcome indeed!!

New Striker you say. Is it just a coincidence that Marcus Bent becomes available and the Gray move suddenly goes through? I think we should be told!!!
Excellent news for Charlton, excellent news for Andy Gray, and excellent news for his family.
Whether it will be good news for Barnsley, I'm far more doubtful. But thank goodness the decent and sensible thing has now been done.
Heaven knows what was going on - yesterday afternoon in his press conference , Parkinson told us resolving Gray's position was ''not a priority''. Somehow within 24 hours it very swiftly got '' prioritised'' and Gray will play for Barnsley tomorrow!
Shame it looks like he's walking into a Championship relegation scrap for the second successive season. Perhaps we'll pass him next May as we go up and he comes back down !!!

Bad apples and all that ........ ?
I wonder if people will climb back down off their high horses when the truth comes out....
Time will tell.

Think that's the problem Tel.Nobody thinks it ever will.
Takeover done now?
Might be worth getting there a bit early tomorrow :-)
or takeover collapsed? who knows. sorry, for offering the negative alternative. my rose-tinted glasses fell off. ;0)

Very true.So it either has or hasn't happened
