And Leicester?

edited August 2009 in General Charlton
Does anyone know why the chant " we all follow the Charlton, over land and sea and Leicester!" came about?

Seems a few clubs have the " and Leicester!" line added, my mate and I are having a discussion on who started this and why.

Anyone know?

  • Chelsea started it i think.
  • I believe it comes from the M1 Motorway Sign 'The North and Leicester.'

Yep, I believe so, plus when heading south from oop north I think it even says "The South and Leicester"
  • It's a rewrite, to the same tune of "We hate Nottingham Forest, we hate Liverpool too AND LEICESTER! We hate Man United but Charlton (or whoever is singing it)we love you"

That one goes back to the late sixties I think, and every team used to sing it (apart from probably Forest, Leicester, Man U and Liverpool obviously).... Can't remember when the new lyrics were added, seem to remember this being sung in the 80-81 season, although that was the first season I went to a lot of away games so I might have that wrong. We had a lot more songs in those days, we'd struggle to fill an EP nowadays (hands up who doesn't know what an EP is)
