Brahim Hemdani

edited August 2009 in General Charlton
Does anyone know enough about this player to give an opinion as to whether he'd make a good signing for us this season?

Glasgow Rangers' Palyer of the Year in 2007, he was released (along with Christian Dailly) in the Summer, so would be available on a Bosman. And, as Dailly has shown, it is possible for Charlton to sign 30+ year old central defenders from last season's Scottish Cup winners.

He'd fill one of the berths at centre back (where we are very thin) as well as providing cover in central midfield (where we're almost as thin, if Semedo, Racon or Spring gets injured).

Wages might be a problem, but, as he's not got a club at all, maybe he'd take a cut on his Rangers salary just to ensure he's playing. (And something is more than nothing).

He's said he wants to be playing in Spain, but, six weeks after his contract at Rangers ended, he's still not fixed up. Might that be a work=permit issue which, having played in the UK would not concern us?

One additional comment. He's finally decided to play international football for Algeria, having spend many years hoping to play for France. Algeria look like qualifying for the 2010 World Cup - and it's a key one for them, being the first in Africa. But he's obviously not going to get picked while he's not with a club. So, like Jorge Costa, he could be someone who plays for Charlton with the intention of getting picked for a World Cup.

Do any of our Glasgow-based Lifers have a view? Or anyone else?

Brahim is a quality keeper of the ball but struggles with the physical side of the game and generally hasn't played consistantly for 2 years. He was used by us in Europe were you get time and space on the ball but was pretty much useless away to teams like Falkirk and St. Mirren as players were in his face not giving him the time he needs. Can't see this one to be honest former captain of Marseille and was on a good wage at Rangers more likely to go back to France to finish his career.

And Bailey. And Shelvey. And Sinclair. And Stav.
