What do you make of the wycombe free kick saturday, when the geezer instead of taking the kick, just started running with the ball ? even confused the ref i think!
...he only touched it once (as he realised what a balls up he made) before the charlton player touched it...was a bit like what happens when you play 2 touch football and run out of touches and keep running towards the defender to put him off....
....but it was a complete mess from a bloody dangerous position
Any ref will stop play for a free kick that has been played twice by the player who takes it before anybody else has touched it. It is such a basic thing that a beginner or park ref would take action, let alone a div 3 ref. I mentioned on another thread that when the two Wycombe players were over the ball, one of them must have gently 'brushed' the ball before moving away, therefore the ball was in play and there to be won, and the other player could dribble it forward. This can be the only explanation, because if the ref really allowed the ball to be played twice it will be the first time I have ever seen it at a game live or on the telly, and I have seen a lot of football, and the referee shouldn't be taking games.
Incidentally, the ref seemed OK to me, but there was one incident when a Wycombe player threw the ball away, the ref sensibly let it go, but if it had happened in the prem the bloke would certainly have been booked.
maybe i'm wrong (and i was watching from the north upper so it was a fair way away) but he didn't touch it twice ..he touched it once and followed the ball like he was dribbling it but didn't touch it again as he realised what he'd done...his next touch was when Sam(?!) kicked the ball against him

Agreed. He kicked it and then Sam did, so he was entitled to tackle Sam. Ref was right, there was nothing wrong even though it looked bizarre.
If the first player touched it, then the ball would have to travel its own circumference to be deemed in play, i dont think this happened, hence the confusion.
ball doesn't have to travel it's full circumference any more....but first player didn't touch it anyway....only the second player (and once)...all within the rules
It was within the rules, first player cocked it up so badly that Sam got confused and instead of booting it clear tried to dribble past him, immediately giving it back to him!

That used to be the case (27”), but I think this law was changed a few years bacy.
100% correct....the Wycombe player touched the ball for a second time AFTER Sam had, had Sam been just a little bit more aware he should have knocked the ball past him and set off like a rocket.Instead he knocked it back to the guy, which made it doubley confusing.
Something of a missed opportunity by Sam as a matter of fact, because there was no cover between there and the Wycombe goal......... as far away as it was.
