Amusing bit of info from yesterdays game.

edited August 2009 in General Charlton
Remember towards the end of the second half there was quite a comotion on the pitch regarding Llera and his head wound bandage coming off.........confusion all round both on and off the pitch.
Well evidently he tried to use Baileys captains arm band as a head bandage to replace the one that was put on at half time.......not surprisingly the ref wasn't having any of it!

  • must have been quite a nasty knock for 11 stitches...thought he had a great game myself....
  • Little bit worried about his pace Tel.........but encouraging none-the-less.

I thought he struggled for a lot of the game. Gets done for pace and (maybe because of the injury) hardly won any headers.
  • Thought he had a decent start and wasn't to bad throughout. Having a head injury and then having to deal with dodgey back passes from midfield will make most centre halfs look flat footed.
  • I thought his confidence took a bit of a knock after the clash of heads. Didn't seem to want to put his head in where it hurts.
  • Yeh looks well dodgy, i saw him at the warm up, when youga and basey were throwing him balls, and he was dodging between the markers, his co ordination was all over the place.
I agree with PeakieRocket, up against anyone with a bit of pace he will struggle.
  • funny how people see things different,i thought he made Phil Chapple look like usain bolt.

There's no chance of Chapple getting a tan like Usain's whilst scouting in Ireland.
  • llera and youga are accidents waiting to happen
  • No shit sherlock !

We said the same about Youga last year and went down!

He was out of position for both goals yesterday.

  • In Yougas defence, for the 1st goal he was covering Llera at centre-half,who was off the pitch.
  • Maybe we should buy John Terry instead.
  • There was also another mental moment at the end of the game. The Wycombe players completely messed up their free kick, which resulted in their winger kicking the ball 2 yards to HIMSELF, but the ref (the lino who had taken over) wasn't looking so play continued. I think that was seconds before Elliot made an awesome save.
  • Actually it was touched by a Charlton player who's first touch sent it straight back to him thus making the ball 'live' and playable again by the Wycombe player...it was very quick and depending where you were in the stadium I guess you might not have got a good view of it.
In short the ref 'was' correct....though had the Charlton player been just a little more alert he could have taken the ball and sprinted the entire length of the field with it as there was no cover behind the Wycombe player.

Maybe you're right, I was a bit angry by this point which may be clouding my judgement somewhat! However, the ref definitely wasn't looking, so he got it 'right' by default rather than sound refereeing. Guess that's all that matters though.
  • I found it a bit funny to see jonjo squaring up to michael dubery in the second half.

One reason Jonjo is such a talent is that he plays like he knows he deserves to be on the pitch and never seems intimidated or like the nerves are getting to him. He seems to have been like that from his first game.
  • Back to Youga - he did make a fabulous goal-line clearance in one of the scrambles, and a few other last ditch clearances during the keystone cops time, so I think he made up for his lack of aerial challenge at the first goal.

i had a fairly good view and didnt see a touch!
  • We all did eastbourne.

And lack of bothering to track their main striker for the second goal.

The real question about Llera's pace is why five midfielders allow incisive balls into forwards/wingers. If you have three central midfielders someone should be sitting in front of the defense making it very difficult to hit darting runs.

    Very true.

I felt he was in two minds as to whether he should go out and tackle the crosser or mark up in the middle.

Youga was covering Llera and Llera was off the pitch so which was out of position by their own fault..... Oh neither!

You lot's moaning all the time really pisses me off... John Terry and Rio Ferdinand aint coming...
