With a potential deal for Charlton getting closer and closer, what plans do shareholders have for their massive windfalls?

Doubt it will be anything like massive if anything at all.

Better to hang onto the shares and proxy them over to any Supporters' Trust that might be set up IMHO.

That's what I'm going to do with mine anyway

same here. I'm going to sign mine over to the ST, transfer them, as opposed to Proxy them. Unless the new owner offers £10 a share for them !!
  • Am I being naive but if we are taken over wont we have to sell our shares?

Only if the new owners buy 90% of the available shareholding.

don't think so. The new owner may offer to buy them from you but he's going to have a major majority anyway so he doesn't really need yours or mine. Not as if we can influence any decisions. Now, if we had a Supporters Trust ...........

But surely there is a point where if they buy enough they buy them all. I'm sure small shareholders wont have an option to keep them at all. Perhaps I'm wrong.
  • if a majority shareholder gets 90% of all shares, they automatically have to buy the remaining 10%, i think.
  • I am no expert but I believe that minority shareholders can only be compelled to sell if there is a shareholders' agreement that they will.

If minority shareholders feel that they are being oppressed by the majority they have the right to contest it in court I believe.

  • I remember some Chelsea mugs shareholders complaining that they had to sell up to Abramovich even though they didn't want to, because he'd bought 90% of the shares & therefore had to buy the rest.
  • Getting a bit ahead of ourselves here arn't we fellas.

My plan is to squander it all on a pint of bitter.

  • Apologies but I'm new to this forum, but would really like some advice / help whilst you guys are on the subject of shares.... My father recently passed away and he held a small number of Charlton Shares. I can't seem locate any paperwork or contact details for how to get them transfered into his wifes name........ sorry if a bit off topic, but i'm a little stuck.
  • I would wait a few weeks or so the issue might be sorted out for you in the process
  • I am going to give the proceeds to Martin Christensen

Contact Chris Parkes, the club secretary, he should be able to help. Essentially all you need to do is sign a form, but you might have to wait for the will to be probated, but Chris will know what to do and the correct proceedure.

Condolences on the death of your father.

Sorry to hear about you father. My thoughts are with you and your family

On the shares you need to contact Nigel Capelin at the Club C/O the Valley or nigel.capelin@cafc.co.uk He looks after all the corporate governance issues.

Sorry BFR Chris Parkes is the football club secretary and doesn't deal with that side of things.

ERed, you may remember that there is a minutes applause for fans, players and officials who have died held every January.

Ii you'd like your father's name included then contact the press office. Not sure which member of staff deals with this now but press@cafc.co.uk or Matt.wright@cafc.co.uk will reach the right person.

Use the same if you like a mention in the programme.

    Again, my condolences.
  • Thanks for the help guys...........and lets hope we have a season to remember rather than one to forget.
  • Oh..and sorry yes I have already arranged for my fathers name to be included in the minutes applause but thank you anyway....................
  • I have 100. I'm going to buy a Mclaren Road Car with my proceeds, knew they were a wise investment.
  • Nigel would probably redirect you to Capita Registrars as they willl have to be notified in writing so it wouldn't be something Nigel could do on your behalf. Angela McKeown helps with the cafc account at capita. They're based in Beckenham and ill get you the full address in a second.
  • The Registry, 34 Beckenham Road, Beckenham, Kent BR3 4TU

That's if they bother to action it of course. I wrote to tell them of my change of address three years ago and never heard a thing.
  • Thanks for the update...i'll drop Capita a letter next week.
