Racing Post "The Big Kick Off" supplement.

edited August 2009 in General Charlton
In Thursday's paper they had a 72 page pull out with a whopping 4 pages dedicated to League One. Just as I was looking forward with some optimism to the new season, this comes along and reminds me about those forgotten demons: FACTS!

In their "Who's in charge" bit they say "Phil Parkinson - Got the job on a full time basis despite failing to win any of his eight matches as caretaker."
Record: Played 34, Won 5, Lost 14, Drew 12. How grim is that. And they don't take into acount that we led in 33 of those games lol.

Also:
"Charlton are unbackable at any price having finished tailed off and incapable of keeping their better players because they're broke"
Boo

And then finally their verdict:
A predictable exodus followed Charlton's relegation and mid table beckons if Nicky Bailey trails the likes of Zheng Zhi, Jon Fortune, Matt Holland and Darren Ambrose out of the door.
This is scathing but he obviously hasn't a clue that two of them haven't OFFICIALLY left and two of them are crap AND Nicky ain't going nowhere.

It does kind of bring you back down to earth a bit when someone impartial and supposedly an expert thinks you're buggered. Considering this is more or less what I thought about a month ago, but for some reason I had started to believe like i do at the start of every season (except last year).

Sorry for the depressing post just before the start of the season, but I had to share with you what the world thinks of us.

Not exactly the world Spiced...just one twatish journo who, as you've pointed out, hasn't a clue what he's talking about.
  • Looking forward to starting the season as underdogs. Lack of expectation and pressure may work in our favour unlike last couple of seasons.
  • Lack of pressure Rodney?
Christ try telling that to Parky.

Ha ha yeah perhaps i should have worded that better... if his bonce doesnt resemble Murray's by the end of the season he'll have done well.

He'll have done well if he isn't unemployed by the end of the season.

I think he's already done well..... So onward and upward
  • Ive just got a sneaky feeling a couple of decent results and we could be in the mix this year....

    Come on you reds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I think we are all feeling the same but just to worried to say it lol
  • Just goes to show its all about what paper you read. I picked up the Times on Monday (we have all papers delievered to work) & they had a pretty honest appraisal of our chances this season & a nice picture of Jonjo as the man to watch in League One.
  • Many moons ago I couldn't wait for the RP Soccer Pull Out. Now I make sure my bets are on BEFORE it comes out so I'm not influenced in any way by their "experts" or affected by a price crash.

Unfortuntely I still sometimes the heart to rule the head and have, as well as backing therather obvious Leeds, stuck us in a few Multis.

Here's hoping the heart is right for once.
