Alan Bennett.......Who he ?

London Paper reporting Alan Bennett has signed a two year deal for Charlton ? Defender apparently. My mate a black taxi driver just had him in the back of his cab and said he looked too old to be a pro footballer. Anyone got a handle on this one ?

  • I saw this one as well but the paper has given us a bum steer as he's signed for Brentford.
  • Ah Alan Bennett former member of Beyond the Fringe with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, not forgetting Dr Jonathan Miller. Author of A Cream Cracker Under the Settee (starring Thora Hird) finally decides to put the writing on hold for a year and live out his dream as a chance to be a professional footballer with Charlton Athletic beckons! This deal could be dependent on whether Parky can attract Dr Jonathan Miller to The Valley to play alongside Bennett.

"Dolly, you've tested me over the years"
  • what, you mean you havent seen his 1 hour monologue on how he could have made it at Charlton if it was for knee injury when he was 17.

"Well" I said thoughtfully as I munched on a digestive "Thora- do you think I should sign for Charlton Athletic? I know there is my writing to consider, whippets to walk in the Yorkshire Moors but-" Thora looked pensive for a moment and then inspected her mug of tea-thoughtfully removing a segment of digestive that had somehow submerged itself in the steaming brown swirl during our introspective conversation. "Eeeh I dunno love" she intoned "'appen you should follow your heart" So I was left for a moment to consider the gravity of my conversation with Parky, truth was though- I rather had hoped for more input from Thora...

  • Well, for the more studious, he's a player released by Reading, who appears to have done a season long loan at Southamoton.
But deffo signed for Brentford last week.

  • Actually quite a good defender, reminds me of Steve Brown, I'd not have complained had we got him - better than McCarthy or Hudson.
