One less on the Forum

TELTEL
edited August 2009 in General Charlton
Ive decided to end my involvement with the Fans Forum. Trust me when I say that the remaining members are a genuine bunch of people who are not sycophants as some people have suggested so unfairly. A lot of hard work is put into promoting the club and in my opinion goes unoticed and by some quarters within the club completely unrespected. Its clear that parts of the club are opposed to the Forum, and to be honest Im completely fed up with banging my head against a wall. Its been a difficult period in the life of Charlton Athletic and perhaps the timing of the inception of the group wasnt perfect. Id like to end by saying Ive enjoyed working with a great bunch of fans and the much maligned Steve Waggott and would like to wish them all the best in the future.

    Sorry to hear that Tel

I would have thought before I read that, that it would have been a dream thing to do. I am saddened by the route the Fans Forum has taken if I'm honest, if the club had let i be it could have been such a great thing to add to the football world.
  • Good Luck Tel, and thanks for your efforts.
  • Cheers Tel, hope to meet for a drink during the season.
  • Really sorry to hear this Tel. I really do get the impression that the whole fans forum thing has been mis-sold and its very unfortunate.
  • I'll get the Panadol! Thanks Tel, however much certain parts of the club may wish you didn't exist, I think you've done very well under near impossible conditions.
  • Very sorry to hear you feel that way Tel but completely understand your reasons for resigning. As you say if somethig like our FF is to be successful it requires 100% commitment to it and the respect of all parties and perhaps this has been missing for some time. Shame it's come to this but thanks very much for all your efforts.
  • To be honest, this whole FF thing has become a bit of a joke. From the way people were "selected" to the number of comingsd and goings in, what, 6 months or so - and a big chunk of that spent close season.

I don't blame the individuals themselves as have no doubt they have worked hard but have possibly found it a bigger challenge than it first appeared - for a variety of reasons.

I'd never put myself up for something like that as would never have the time - or patience - to make a real go of it, so would never knock anyone who does. However, anyone who steps in now must do so for the right reasons and with fully open eyes if this isn't just going to fall away completely.

Good luck Tel, and thanks for trying.
  • Sorry to hear this Tel.

I was very grateful for the efforts you put in on my behalf re the aborted "takeover meeting" when I had heard nothing from the Club.

In my opinion we should all be worrying when a dedicated bloke like you decides to jack it in.
  • Sad news Tel totally understandable though

One thing to add - whilst getting rid of my duplicate posts (bloody Blackberry!) Is that if it is clearly this difficult, time consuming, frustrating and challenging to run a fans forum in your spare time then just think how tough it must actually be to be one of the major shareholders who have to make all of the really big decisions in theirs.

    Just a thought.

    Duplicate post
  • On behalf of those of us who remain on the Fans' Forum, let me say how gutted we are that Tel has decided to call it a day. I won't attempt to list the many excellent qualities that Tel brought to our group, but we will be a lot poorer as a result of losing him, irrespective of who might replace him.

We have lost a top, top guy who has a great knack of seeing the bigger picture and communicating in clear terms.

Maybe one lesson that can be learned from this sorry state of affairs is that fans' representatives, whether they be part of a Fans' Forum, a Supporters' Trust or whatever, need to realise that they must be able to deal with frustration, lack of urgency and downright intolerance - and use these negatives to trigger even greater commitment and positive effect if their efforts are to prove ultimately useful.

A timely lesson from a marvellous Charlton fan ahead of the Supporters' Trust meeting on Tuesday - sincere thanks for everything, Tel.
  • Very sorry to hear that mate. Can't say I blame you as it must have been hugely frustrating. But you can hold your head high in the knowledge that you gave it your best in extremely trying circumstances.
  • sorry to hear this. Well done for having a go and thanks for what you did.

Hope that another overseas addick can be found to replace you.
  • why clearly obvious from tel's post that the club really dont want this forum,i feel sorry for the remaining members.I think the board need to take a good hard look at themselves as I feel used just as a fan. They wanted us back in 86-92 days and think they can toss us aside when they feel like it.
  • The problem with Fan's Forums and the like is that they only run smoothly if things are going well with the club and there isn't likely to be any real issues...

When things start to go tits up then it's groups like the FF that tend to be 'in the way' as it were...

I'm sure that once we start to get things sorted at the top level organisations like the FF will once again be a welcome part of the agenda...
  • Tel for the reasons you first stood I urge u to reconsider.
  • Sorry to hear that Tel...... I know that you're also a local businessman having to work extra hard during these hard times....I assume that that too had some influence on your decision...I can fully understand it were it to be the case.
You've obviously got something to offer to the Addicks somewhere along the line, let's see what the future brings.
  • Does this mean there's going to be a by-election...?

  • [cite]Posted By: RedZed333[/cite]Does this mean there's going to be a by-election...?

I doubt it. When the FF was announced as happening Steve Waggott stated that any one interested in joining should apply and all candidates were to apply and an election would be held. Once the applications were in the club announced there would be no election and all 6 who applied would be the forum.

Subsequently 2 members have left (prior to Tel) and the FF decided who the replacements were from new applicants.
  • Sad that Terry is leaving, as he's an excellent communicator, put his views across well, and was a real credit to supporters as a forum member.

We had our disagreements, but always with the clubs best interests at heart.
