seeing that Murray has said that he has "never heard of him" and he is "supposedely the best centre half you've ever seen" with a sarcastic tinge to it.

We're never going to get £3.7m for him but it does look like a major overhaul in January, probably leading to another settling in period that we just simply do not have time to have

  • There's no point worrying about losing even more points in a "settling in period" for any new players that do come in because we are going down anyway.
The problem is not really that Charlton are abysmal but that the teams above us are far better than we are and that includes Sheffield United, West Ham, Boro and Fulham.
What two other sides, given that Watford are worse than us, can we seriously expect to finish above? Don't forget, we have already lost to three of those sides I listed above and will probably add Boro to that list on the weekend.
This club has been going downhill since Parker left and Curbs did not replace him properly. Ever since then Curbs brought in more and more mediocre crap like Hughes, El Karkouri, Ambrose and Marcus Bent which when added to the crap Dowie brought in (and we don't need to list them again) spells one word - relegation.
    Just look at our average league position over the last three years - 2005/6 = 13th with 47 pts - 2004/5 = 11th with 46 points and 2003/4 = 7th with 53 pts.
We have been on a steady slide and Curbs knew just what was going on and that there was no way he could turn it around in a realistic time-frame.
Fact is, when Parker left Curbs knew that the game was up and that we would never reach "the next level" because no matter how hard you work the best players will always want to leave and play for a "big" club - there is nothing you can do about it and Reading, Wigan and Sheffield Utd will find this out too.
The best thing we can do now is to have a massive clear-out in January and get rid of the cancerous ones and inject some old-fashioned Charlton-type players back into the mix.
Incidentally, look at the side that we had playing in 2003/4 when we were at our peak: Kiely, Young, Rufus, Fish, Herman, Jensen, Parker, Euell, Holland, Di Canio, Bartlett.
Then look at the side that played in Curbs last game: Andersen, Sankofa, Sorondo, Perry, Powell, Ambrose, Holland, Hughes, Kishishev, Bartlett, D. Bent.
    Says it all, doesn't it?
