Ode - To Be An Addick

edited July 2009 in General Charlton
Not so much a discussion as an outpouring of feelings. Having followed many of the threads on here for the last couple of months I like everyone else I guess have gone through the complete range of emotions - happy, sad, angry and just totally confused. So to put my thoughts on all things Charlton down on paper (sort of) and with a little help from The Pogues' and "Sally MacLennane" here goes.

Well Charlton's been the team for me since I was just a boy
they give me lots grey hairs and they give me lots of joy
we've had our share of ups and downs and here we go again
we've been down that road to nowhere in the morning

The fifth day of December back in nineteen ninety two
our darkest days were over we went home to start anew
from the boardroom to the bar room we were faithful we were few
and we were on the road to god knows in the morning

We'll support you through the sunshine and the rain
we've been down before and we'll be back again
so we're singing a song of times to come
cos we know that we'll be seeing you again
(far away) I am sad to say we must be on our way
we're off to play at Hartlepool and places far away
(far away) i'd like to think we'll be returning when we can
to take the points off Palarse and to laugh at Jordans tan

Well Charlton's been the team for me since I was just a lad
they often make me happy and they sometimes make me sad
I find myself remembering the good times that we've had
when i'm walking to The Valley in the morning

The play off final '98 was Wembleys greatest game
a hat trick hero centre stage Mendonca was his name
we made our mark in history and Curbishley was king
and we were very happy Addicks in the morning

We'll support you through the sunshine and the rain
we've been down before and we'll be back again
so we're singing a song of times to come
cos we know that we'll be seeing you again
(far away) I am sad to say we must be on our way
we're off to play at Hartlepool and places far away
(far away) i'd like to think we'll be returning when we can
to take the points off Palarse and to laugh at Jordans tan

They'll always be my team they are the apple of my eye
i'll be there in The Covered End i'm Charlton til I die
we're number one in South London no matter what they say
I would rather be an Addick than a Nigel

We'll support you through the sunshine and the rain
we've been down before and we'll be back again
so we're singing a song of times to come
cos we know that we'll be seeing you again
(far away) I am sad to say we must be on our way
we're off to play at Hartlepool and places far away
(far away) i'd like to think we'll be returning when we can
to kick the arse of Palace and to laugh at Tango Man
