  • [cite]Posted By: DaveMehmet[/cite]Afternoon flight. Kev mentioned that one of the Prague teams are at home on the Saturday and we might pop along (will probably be better than Wycombe!)

Its actually Sunday at 5.00. Worth it if you're still here but I suppose you'll be on the way home. Let me know if you want more info.
  • I think we need to have sympathy for the board, while also hoping that they can get a deal done and sell the club to new owners that may have the cash to move it forward again. As fans, I am sure the board is hoping for the same thing. As businessmen with families, they also need to look out for their own best interests.
And may have come to the hard realization that they need to cut their losses now or they are only going to get larger, and put the club in more peril.

Our board is made up of wealthy and successful men, who are almost assuredly fans of the club. But wealth is relative, especially in football.
A man with 1million pounds, 10million, 20million in the bank is a wealthy man ... but it isn't enough to be able to comfortably spends chunks on the hobby of running a football club in today's economy.
I think that is where I board is right now, and selling a passion, even a passion in financial peril is a difficult proposition for them to accept. But deep down, I think they know it needs to be done. And the sooner, the better.

Spot on AA. I agree 100%.
  • Selling our best players will simply hasten our decline down the leagues, thus making us even less attractive to any potential buyers. At the moment we are a big club that has fallen upon bad times, but we still have great potential in terms of stadium, crowds and promising young players. There are buyers out there and that has been proved by the likes of Plymouth, Southampton and Notts County. If this takeover doesn't look like it's going to happen, we should pull the plug and hope we get off to a flying start which may attract new interest. Selling our crown jewels would be the worst move we could make, because even then there is no certainty that this board will be able to keep us in business.

    Good point QA....good point.
  • Unfortunately qa if it don't happen,we will have to sell to survive and stop us going into administration, that is quite evident.

I think the same argument was used for selling Darren Bent when we were relegated from the Prem. OK so we got our 13 million, but in the long run are we better off? Had we held on to him until Xmas we may well have been top of the Championship by Xmas and now back in the Premiership instead of division 3. Had we not been on course for promotion we could still have got a decent fee for him in the January window.
We as fans need to stop being so accepting of some of the boards short sighted decision making and start putting up a bit of opposition instead, it may just sway the board into making the right choice for a change.
