  • Good bloke.

After relegation in 1998/1999 season he came in the Oak and bought a round that was over a hundred drinks.

Also left a further £500.00 behind the bar incase he missed anyone!!!
  • He is the 3rd biggest investor in CAFC. Depending on what price you put on the shares/bonds his investment combined with Chappells is greater than Murrays (inc Bolistrom).

In other words he is a major player.
  • Decent sort. Used to post regularly on the mailing list back in the day (pre prem). Don't know if he still does.

i think there in lies the problem, 3 never makes a good number.
  • Never met so can't comment, but have heard mixed reviews from others.
  • I had some dealings with him in the late 90s and i'm sorry to say that I found the way he dealt with people to be disappointing - and in stark contrast to RM, Martin Simons, Mike Stevens and Michael Grade. I am not sure exactly where his money comes from but its something in finance and definitely not a "people business". He is, or was, based in Gibralter.

I don't know where his allegiance to Charlton comes from. Other people I trust, and have more dealings with him than I had, are also negative about him. They suggest he wants to be chairman.
But to be fair, he may just not be a 'people person' . He and David Sumners are, or were, mates. David Sumners still comes on the Mailing List and seems to be a very nice bloke. Whitehand has been there a long time, and put in a lot of money, without apparently being a destabilising force.
  • I sat at his table at POTY a few years back (Danny Murphy was the player)...was an alright chap...was/is based in Gib and also had a home in Sevenoaks...was into property development out in Spain.. His cousin sits infront of me in the East stand (and - I think - is on here occassionally, but not sure on username..). So, nothing of value to add I'm afraid...(I was also one of the beneficiaries of the Oak drinks a few years back..)
  • have a look on facebook...
  • Now I think of it, there were a number of things he was involved in which didn't work out for us. In the 90's he was the director concerned with international issues, including player signings, and tie ups such as Inter Milan. Later the club put that on a more 'executive' footing (PV and Jeff Vetere), and it worked better. I also think Lllanera must have been his deal,as Charlton Charlie reminds me.

So you can imagine that slowly he and RM could be at loggerheads as each could accuse the other of costly cock-ups.

always nice and open to questions when i am in the corperate mate,

he was one of those who looked like he wanted to Kill Pardew when things were going wrong, saw him get out of his seat and say something to Parky who was sitting next to RM and Parky ran down to the bench whilst Bob stormed off to the board room

  • I dont think he's that popular to be honest.
  • I think I remember reading that he was behind the deal that bought Jorge Costa to the Valley on loan from Porto.
