Llera: I didn't feel valued at MK Dons

Monday, 06 July 2009
By John Stanton

MIGUEL Llera has revealed he had to leave MK Dons because he didn’t feel valued by the club.
Charlton’s recent signing was disappointed that he wasn’t offered a new deal at Stadium MK until after the Dons had lost to Scunthorpe in the play-off final, despite having just weeks to run on his contract.
That made up the Spaniard’s mind that he would look for a new club, a decision which led him to sign for Charlton last week.
He turned down offers from Norwich, Doncaster and Scunthorpe to sign at The Valley.
“I left MK Dons for a simple reason - they did not value my ability,” Llera told the South London Press.

  • Turning down 2 Championship clubs and one of the biggest in League 1 for us, i can only think he wanted to live in London.
  • ... or parky did a great job persuading him. ;-)
  • I'm sure he will love it here we go one down 5 minutes into the game against wycombe and you watch the tides turn from the stands!!

He will want to be back at MK dons quicker than he could possibly imagine!!
  • In other words we offered him more money....

    .........

So we're now signing players that Franchise FC don't rate...

But that Norwich Doncaster and Scunthorpe did.

Funny that when Wright is only rumoured, by his agent most likely, to be interesting Scunthorpe that is a sure sign of how terrible we are but when a player chooses us over them it's because he's no good.

Norwich, Donny and Scunthorpe rated him so highly that they let us sign him...

I'm not sure what this has to do with Josh Wright though...

Or, just maybe ... Norwich, Doncaster and Scunthorpe all realised his potential and did all they could to sign him, but Llera chose the team he thought was best placed to gain quick promotion and make a bid for Premiership football within his next contract.

    ........

In which case he'd have gone to Doncaster Rovers as they are a division ahead of us...

LOL. Very, very funny. Love it.

That's right, they "let" us sign him. They just stood aside and "let" us sign him especially Norwich. That's exactly how the world of Football works.
  • This is a complete outrage and more incompetence from Charlton. Identifying a player that they want, who is also wanted by their one of their closest rivals and 2 two clubs from the division above, and then going out and beating those clubs to his signature - sack the entire board and sack Parkinson as well, how dare they!

Also, I imagine that MK Dons were probably waiting to see which division they were in before they offered new contracts for next season.

    So true

This almost sounds like you're inferring that we're financially better off than one of our rivals...we'll have no such positive talk on this board, thank you!
  • The proof of the pudding is of course always in the eating but at face value it seems that Charlton did very well to get his signature.
  • It will be the lure of money in my opinion.....nothing much else in this day and age.
  • The thing about Llera is we are collectively a reasonably perceptive support at Charlton and after about five games people start to get a good idea about a player, and if they're young enough, their potential. The apparant fact that Philip Parkinson wanted him is enough to worry me, however I understand he gets booked four games out of five, gets sent off, gives 100%, has prescence, and is an ariel threat, and this suggests to me he might be quite entertaining. I peversely used to love it when Robbo got booked for dissent, the first time usually about half an hour into a new season, he had some kind of character at least...I don't think Hudson was as bad as some on here do, but I thought Hudson was nondescript and boring. I'm for giving Llera a chance, and as long as he isn't Kevin Muscat I will encourage him. it would be nice to have a nutter playing for us, but not an evil coward.
  • Unvalued, Unvalued!! We'll show him what its like to be Unvalued. The first F*** up he makes we'll boo the bloke off the pitch, then he'll know what unvalued means ;)

agreed which no doubt means we MAY be offering OTT wages nothing changes
  • i don't think we would have offered huge money. it hardly fits with the stories about needing to cut the wage bill and hudson and gray etc needing to go. i reckon we will have learned from those mistakes.

In his interview Llera talks about how much he's looking forward to living in london, the size of the club and ambitions for promotion. I know footballers can't always be believed but i think the london thing sounds like a big factor.
  • Click Whirr Whirring Light Bulb ON!

Does this mean we can sign the hard working, committed and skillful footballers that Scunthorpe and Doncaster have. As they want some of our lillylivered coxless eight, can't we start swapping?

Gees I'd be a happy man if we had some of their committed players. Why are our players good enough for them but not for us Parkardew? Cos we haven't got bloddy hard working compact players to win and compete for ball.... stilll. So unless two more athletic, powerful defenders arrive and at least one more energetic/tackling wideman we'll barely compete for play offs.

Oh why not waste Mouta and his wages in the reserves when he'd rip apart teams in this div as a midfileder! Oh no my names Parky through the middle, slow, slow fall over.

    Light Bulb Off.
  • I think its just as well Llera is Spanish and perhaps hasn`t done his homework on his new club. Why would anyone with other "bigger club" options choose us with our recent history and current turmoil ?

The London factor is probably a big reason. Would imagine it is easier for a foreigner to acclimatise within the multicultural environment of London than in the provinces of Scunthorpe or Doncaster.
