  • The Wolfboy
Foley signed all three players Hales ,Flash and Paddy.
Nelson turned the same squard that FOLEY had to 3rd place 74/75.It took three seasons to return to 2nd division.
  • Third Division Days 72/73 to 7475 some of good times shared with friends.
Song ...........Here we come walking down the street.
Agro...........Walsall,Bournemouth,Brighton,Aldershot,Cambridge,Chesterfield,Hailfax,Southend and could not forget The Clockwork Orange train to Plymouth 5-0 defeat.
    HAPPY DAYS.
  • Brighton, midweek away in the league cup, we were well outnumbered but still held our own, can't even remember watching any of the match there was that much aggro...

Few weeks later we went down on a Saturday with a massive crew and we chased them around Brighton all day long...
  • [cite]Posted By: Addick Addict[/cite]I still have the season ticket stubs which must be worth a few bob as there weren't many of us in those days.

    .

Good God, AA, so I'm not the only saddo that kept his season ticket stubs.

My season ticket for season 1974/75 was number 00005. Me and my mate used to joke about whether we even made it to double figures that year.
As it turned out it was a cracking season ending in promotion.
Followed the boys all over; Aldershot, Walsall ( at the old stadium with the corrugated iron stand - remember being pelted with light bulbs and a fire extinguisher by ManU fans in a passing train), Brighton, Watford, Bournemouth, Bristol Rovers, Peterborough (on my own-don't ask) and others I've forgotten. Great days!
  • Yep I remember standing on the East Terrace with no one in arms length near me. Dismal days.

Remember us playing one 3rd division game in the winter on a snow layered pitch with an orange ball, which is what used to happen in the older days. Can't remember who it was against but Halifax Town comes to mind.

I remember times, as often as not ,when you were able to have a crush barrier rail all to yourself at most games on the east terrace!

Bringing it all back, yes I was there. It was all a bit of a laugh and you just took it in your stride. Had some great rucks in those days, I got a right kicking Walsall away off Man U at Birmingham New St!

That's right. My brother and a couple of mates used to go to a pub in the village on Saturday games walk out at 2.55 and walk straight in through the turn style at Bartrams Entance paying cash without any queue.
  • When my Dad became too ill to stand on the terrace we moved to the old West stand, the gabled CAFC structure, and for a few extra quid a season could park right behind it. You were directed to your space by a uniformed commissionaire. Anyone else go to the 5-0 drubbing at Blackpool that put us down in '72?
  • [cite]Posted By: thewolfboy[/cite]When Theo Foley signed Killer and then Nelson took over and got Flan, with Paddy Powell to deliver, it was some ride!!!!!!!!

Theo signed Killer from Luton in 1973. I may be wrong but I seem to remember Flash being there before Killer. Flash was signed from Spurs as a youngster and played left wing where he was very poor. I believe he was converted to centre forward where he was transformed into an excellent player.

Yes I was there, only missed 6 home games since 1971. ( I wasn't there in the 1930's LOL).

Thinking back, I seem to remember, Hales coming in on loan from Luton around Sept 73 and playing in an evening match at home to Blackburn, which we won 4-3.

We were all impressed with his aggressive approach, seeming to turn up in all the right places, scored a goal - and thought he was well useful. I believe we signed him a while later for £10,000.

Mike Flanagan joined us a couple of months earlier on a free from Spurs. And he made an early impression too as we trounced Swansea 6-0.

Later that season we played League leaders Notts County who played all the football and frequently showed why they were top. Except Flash had different ideas and literally won the match for us on his own, scored 4 cracking solo breakaway goals and created chances for others too, not bad for a 20 year old. But how we won a match 6-2 when we should have been slaughtered by a much better team I don't know!
  • erm...6-1 and we were played off the pitch :-)
  • Cheers, Tel ..... 6-1. I stand corrected.

But how on earth did we win that match by such a great margin - or even at all?
Nott's County players were shaking their heads in disbelief at the final whistle.

Rarely can such a scoreline suggest that the better team lost.
  • One of those games you just never forget as it was totally one sided but it seemed like whenever we did get the ball it ended up in the net!

I go back to the late 60's for my first game so I've seen us in the 3rd before. The crowds were a bit sparse weren't they?.............
  • Thats a cracking photo....
  • I remember both the Swansea and Notts County matches, both were played mid week, and as I recollect we were by far the best team in both matches, we even nearly beat Sheffield United in the cup a few weeks later, we were pretty strong at home....
  • I remember those matches too.

It begs the question, have we ever scored 6 in a league match since then?
    I'm struggling to remember any.

I remember all those games Blackburn, Swansea and Notts C.

I also recall us beating Soton 6-2 ? at The Valley in i think 1975/76.

  • You're dead right CE.
I just looked it up - Friday 24th September 1976. Hales & Flanagan 2 goals apiece.

I must have been there but I'm damned if I can remember anything!!!

    Anymore for anymore?
  • Soton had a star studded team Osgood, Ball, Channon etc.
