Attention: Please take a moment to consider our terms and conditions before posting.

its your decision now

So you are now the new owner of a recently relegated Premier league club who now find them 2 divisions away from the holy grail.

You have just shelled out best part of 30 mill,

you have a wage bill over two thirds of income your attendances have fallen you will struggle to get 12000 home fans at the start of the season

morale in the dressing room is low but on the terraces it is lower

you have some tough choices to make

your plan is a 5 year one to get back to them premier league your budget per season will be based on promotion but you need to be making the club run at no loss by the end of season 2 and start making a profit by the end of season 3

Your current manager is still at the helm and to remove him will take 750K plus a new contact for new manger and back room staff an extra 300k in wages out of your 1st season budget of 4 mill

a. Keep him saving over 1 mill

b remove him and lose money and not buy a player who your new mgr wants

c Remove him and sell a player or two to cover costs

You have several senior pros who in any other circumstances you would be able to move on for a nominal fee and save wages

a keep them

b release them on a free saving you wages but leaving a whole that would need filling at the cost of 1 million in your new budget

c offer them new contracts and place on transfer list if they refuse to sign them upsetting them but you need a fee in

You have a young starlet who would set the league alight and if fitness maintained be the difference in your seasons outcome

a Sell at the highest bidder and rebuild seperating you from the fans of your new club

b Utilise and virtual insist that your new manger builds the team around him but probally costing you any chance of getting ahead in your cost neutral plan in 2 years

Your current club captain wants to remain as such but you have a player you are desperate to hang on to but like the young starlet is attracting big money offers that could seriously help your cause

a Remove the captaincy from old captain and offer the position to the other player and refuse all offers

b keep the current captain happy and try to persuade the other player to stay very doubtfull as captaincy may be the only tool you have left to keep him intrested

c Sell the other player for best price and try to rebuild the team with the money bought in

You have a youth team that has showed great promise in certain positions in their age group games

a bed 6 of them in this season by selling players that are currently 2nd choice in the youth teams relevant positions currently

b get your new manager to seriously have a good look at them and pick 3 from that crop to keep and sell 3 players that are certain of squad football in the forth coming season generating less than 1 mill

c maintain the squad as it is realeasing no funds to buy new players.

2nd installment after 10 games in

    Glory boy, you?!!!
  • 1 - give parky the chance to build his own team. There has been an improvement in performances and commitment which has yet to translate to results - but it will.

2 - I would sell senior pros if the price was right to bring in new funds and reduce wage bill. Those out of contract I want to keep - ZZ,Holland and Fortune offer new contracts at league 1 levels. They will either accept or not.

3 - I would try to keep the young starlet for one more season - he would get more game play with us. The ideal solution would be to sell and loan back.

4 - Club captaincy goes to the person best able to do the job. Hudson and Baily no - Holland yes when he is playing.

5 - Use those good enough - Shelvey proven - Tuna looks promising - Josh Wright won't be here. Give the others the chance as they are ready and opportunity permits - There are the League cup and JPT to blood them. If they work out you need to then decide based on offers and existing contracts (wages and duration) whether to sell the experienced player or the youngster

Where do I collect my A level in Multiple Choice studies?
  • C- Should have been done after the Norwich game, if not before - worst winless run in Charlton's History, bottom and out of sight, despite being in the Prem 3 seasons prior. Board should have been active drawing up shortlist of possible candidates for interview.

a - keep fortune and ZZ though at reduced levels with pay increase upon promotion and other performance related bonuses.

Yioung starlet - tricky. A ridiculous fee - sell. Howevere, make clear and try to convince player that his long term development is best served playing regular football. Renew contract with promotion clause that will double slary. Add in goal scoring and other performance realted bonuses.

Captain - The best man for the job. Hudson failed for the last 35 games oif the season. Would a new manager inspire him to better things, he seemed to do well as Palace captain, maybe this can be rekindled? Will depend on the new manager's relatiuonship and man management skills (parky doesn't seem to offer much in this department) Personally transfer list and get fee and give Bailey a chance, based on his work rate and ethic.

    Youth Team

If they look like a Shelvey, Rufus, Parker of the future, keep! If Charlton do well in league one, gradually ease them into first team games via cups and as back up.
  • If I have the money, if I can find them, can I hire the A team?

They are all about 70 now. Are you thinking BA BAracas as hardman midfield general?

  • C) He will equate to one waste of space such as Deon Burton or Matt Spring in terms of wages.
    B) The senior pros let us down last year, get rid of any we can.
    B) Use him while he is committed to the cause, but every player has a price.
    A) Give the captain to the best man for the job, the last couple haven’t been up to it.
    B) We have a history of releasing players who later show they were worth a fee. Loan them out or play them but get them in the shop window, like Wright.
  • C) (but I'd caveat that by saying that I think the numbers are on the high side and we'll be selling everything not nailed down anyway)
    A) (but with the caveat that you can't just "free" them if nobody wants them. I'd go with A, but accept any reasonable offers.
    B) (assuming the young startlet hasn't got a RELEASE FEE)
Next one I can't answer - if I have a couple of decent offers on the table for the Captain I go for A), though I don't think captaincy will do much to motivate the other player and it's dangerous to hand an important job to someone for reasons other than ability to do it.
    B) Unlikely that 6 will be able to step up.
