Killer

Duffy
Shirtliff (for those two goals)
Mendonca
Kinsella
Gritt
Steve Brown
Sir Chris
Les Berry
Colin Walsh (for that goal)

All of the above for either loyalty & dedication to the cause or have made a single contribution to our history.

Can anyone add to this list?

    John Robinson!
  • [cite]Posted By: Valley11[/cite]Simon Webster (or am I now stretching the 'legend' theme to cover 'really good player' status?)

Legend covers service to the cause as well as top player in my opinion.

That reminds me I left Brian Kinsey off my list.
  • Garry Nelson?

Can I have a Cult Heroes sub-category including Leaburn, David Whyte Whyte Whyte and Stuart Balmer?
  • John Hewie, Graham Moore, Mike Bailey, Paul Went, ShipShipShipperley, Allan Simonsen, Mike Kenning, Len Glover, Paul Mortimer, Bob Curtis, Paul Went, Jorge Costa
  • No Curbs or Roger Alwen?

  • As a fairly young fan (compared to you lot) it's gotta be Darren Bent
  • edited June 2009
Jimmy Seed - Winning two promotions, two cup finals and 20 plus years at the helm

Norman Smith - 485 games and three promotions

    Fred Chick - WW1 Causality

John Mitchell - Founder member of Club and played in first pro and first league game.

Scotty Kingsley - Helped reform the club in 1919 and pick out the Swamps as a potential ground. When we couldn't afford to pay the builders of the main stand agreed to be transferred to Fulham to raise £1,000 and wipe the debt.

Ralph Allen - Still record goalscorer in a season (32 in 28 games)

Seth Plum - no, not him the real one. First ever international.

John Hewie - played in every position including starting as keeper. Only Scottish Cap

All long before my time, other than Hewie, but we have a history that goes back before the premiership or the portacabins.

  • Good thread, would like to compare this to what I've got down for us in FM. This is the list I've submitted for Football Manager 2010.

Bearing in mind the guidelines I have say that anyone no longer involved in football that isn't considered a 'legend' shouldn't be on the list, and there should only be roughly 20 people. Posts in here already show there's so many opinions and ideas for who is a legend.

Legends - Sam Bartram, Derek Hales, Jimmy Seed and Alan Curbishley. This should only include the biggest legends, a small number of people, no in the way the word legend is used now.

Icons (next level down from legends) - Chris Powell, Mark Kinsella, Richard Rufus, Clive Mendonca, John Robinson, Steve Brown, Richard Murray, Keith Peacock, Darren Bent, Andy Hunt, Graham Stuart and Martin Simons. Loads of names in here that could be included, but how many are just favourite players or legends to a few fans in their own way, rather than liked by every fan and people at the club?

Favoured personnel - Matt Holland, Paolo Di Canio, Radostin Kishishev, Jorge Costa and Kevin Lisbie. Really these are just people that are liked, definitely nowhere near being considered a true legend in the way that some of the above are. For example when Lisbie comes back The Valley, he gets a good reception, he's not forgotten, generally respected by the club and fans as a whole.

I've got a disliked list as well, Bouazza and Marcus Bent being the most recent additions...
  • Most of the above for me , Johhny H in particular my boyhood fave.

Would add Kim Grant plus John Hendry just for their goals against the boys in blue.:-)
  • no order:

    Charlie Wright----character
    Ray Tracey
    Nicky Jones-----class
Paddy Powell----later starter wnder how many goals he made
    Bob Curtis----strong
Johny Humphries---------pure class, easy an England player
    Mark Kinsella---------Legend
    Rufus----------Legend
    Chrissy Powell---------Legend
Paul Elliot---to good for us at the time.
    Parker-------why did he go
Simonsen--------far to good for us at the time
    Costa-------World class
    Di Canio---------entertainer
D Bent ---------if he played for any other club he would have gone to World Cup and we needed him there.
    Steve Brown----------wont let you down
Mendonca----------If If If If only he hadnt been injured i wonder how good super clive could have been.
    Kiely -------------great shot stopper

  • I've always thought we should have a statue of Chris Powell doing his "jumping out of the tunnel" stance after we'd won a game. For me, he embodies the spirit of our club.
