[cite]Posted By: seth plum[/cite]In the season being referred to, not only did Ray score that goal against Derby (from memory he hit it first time, full volley as the ball reached him from slightly behind him, about 28 yards out, covered end...really brilliant goal), and the goal at palace...well and accurately described above by Soundas, but also an absolute screamer that season away at Fulham, headed on by Tees (an ace player himself) and screamed in at the Hammersmith end, which we had taken over. Incidentally in that game the Charlton support was so lively and vocal that our bouncing up and down made the whole underfoot 'structure' wobble and I thought it was going to collapse.
That goal against Derbt and the one at Selhurst both stick in my mind because they were very similar. Thinking about the night at Selhurst , I was on the Whitehorse 'Terrace', well actually the grass banking above the terrace the ground seemed to be filled with Addicks that night. 10,000 sliding about on a slippery muddy bank how dangerous was that !
Agree with all that Oggy and Soundas said....funny time really the sixties, Ive got a pennant from 64 which has the three Robins on it and then around 67 I got all confused and became a Valiant.....have been ever since...didnt really like the re-adopted Addicks which probably got resurrected circa back to the Valley and Airman Brown, Voice etc. However, when we were deciding on a name for the Aussie contingent, one of the lads proposed Addicksdownunder which stuck....which by the way celebrates 3 years of age next week.
My Great Nan and then later my Nan worked in the bar below the covered end which you may recall was the Robins Tavern......My Great Nan used to tell me how the terrace used to vibrate above her head with the weight of the bodies back in the late 30's through to the 50's....happy days
