  • also says in the report about doubt over the future ownership of the club!!
  • Theres also an advert asking if you'd like to hire Rodney Marsh !

    WTF for ?????
  • An improvement on Dion Perhaps
  • Clarke has been recommended by Nicky Bailey apparently.
  • It does look like the sort of player and signing we need.
  • He's down as 6ft and 12 stone - doesn't seem the dominating sort we need.

Parky, or whoever, get James Wilson of Bristol City - he'll command a fee but worth it in the long run.

Never heard of James Wilson, but having looked him up he's only 20, and not even played 20 football league games in his career. Surely they'd want a decent fee for what appears to be one of the best prospects?

Someone like him I'd imagine would be more realistic as a loan signing.

Clarke would be much less of a risk and we know he's one of the better players in League One. He's a very solid League One defender, doesn't really matter if he's 6ft or 6ft 4, he's a good player and has the right defenders next to him. We're not in the Prem any more, we're not going to be able to sign defenders without a weakness in some part of their game. We've had players like Boothroyd up front who are 6 ft 3 or 4, but he was never dominant in the air. Chris Perry wasn't big but did a lot better in the air than you might expect.

In the end, signing the player of the year from a decent League One side on a free would be a good signing. He's the sort of players we should be looking at. Pardew tried to build a team of young players and that didn't work, if we sign Clarke we'll be getting someone we know should do a good job right away.

Asked a Southend fan about him, here's what he said-
With Clarke you'd be getting a good player. Not technically amazingly gifted, but whole-hearted, committed, and great at making last-ditch tackles
  • in that article they also say we have a defender named matt hudson
  • matt/mark - easy mistake to make. Oh, you mean they call him a 'defender' .........
