The Championship

edited December 2006 in General Charlton
The championship these days seems one of the most hardest leagues to get out of.

Alot of teams are in that league that we would probably struggle against on our recent form.

I feel as though if we DO get relegated then we will end up like teams similar to Southampton, Coventry, Sunderland etc instead of spending loads and coming back up like Birmingham.

Looking at West Brom's side they all have good players who we would easily have playing for us:

Gera
Curtis Davies
Ellington
Koumas
Kamara
Nigel Quarsie (if thats how you spell it)

I just feel as though we are going to struggle if we go down considering the players we are most likely going to loose.

  • The Championship is an extremely difficult league this and I 'm guessing next season will be harder still, as it seems like Reading will stay up and Sheff Utd might also cling on to there prem status.

If that does happen, then 2 established prem teams will be joining the championship next season. And I expect that of the Brum, WBA and Sunderland who came down that only Brum will go back up along with Derby managed by the excellent Billy Davies.

I say Davies is excellent from the experience of watching his Preston team turn Iain Dowies' Palace over 3 times last season (once with 9 men). He is tactically excellent and if he gets Derby up he will keep them up.

What I would say on a positive is that, although the Championship does not have the glamour of the Prem it does have more competition and better ticket prices!
  • It wont be hard for us to get out of tom...

...we'll probably just be getting out of the wrong way i suspect a la Palace and Millwall. I'd love all three of us to be in the same league
  • For Palace and Charlton to be in the same league will require 2 more relegations for us and 3 for you....then we might catch Millwall.
  • LOL, good point SOS. Add a promotion for Gravesend, and a couple from Bromley and Welling, and we can have a nice little local league.
  • and Dartford can come up in a bit if they keep getting 1,500+ crowds!
  • Prefer to see Maidstone United back myself! Once they stop playing in Sittingbourne.
