  • The reason we got Dowie was everyone else turned us down! He was essentially the: "We can't get anyone else to do it so we'll appoint you" candidate.

Ha ha, who turned us down then? I think you'll find we got Dowie because Murray wanted to put one over Jordan.

I don't doubt that Murray wanted to get one over on the Tango'd one. However, if you remember we were linked a lot with Billy Davies, Aidy Boothroyd and Phil Parkinson.
  • Linked with and turned down by are two completely different things.
  • Not that I know anything but I thought we got Dowie so that RM could pi55 off the Tango one of SE25. If true theTango one had the last laugh!

Billy Davies interviewed for the job. The official story is the club decided to move on to someone else, but the supposed real reason is that he wanted a larger transfer kitty than the club would give.

If you believe Murray and co are stupid enough to make Iain Dowie, a man whose only major accomplishment was getting Palace relegated, their #1 choice then i've got a bridge to sell you.

    Billy Davis.

  • Richard Murray said Billy Davis had 3 interviews and accepted the job but then u-turned 24hrs later being advised that he was onto a hiding to nothing following Curbs and the squad was not as strong as it should.
  • It was selling Sailor Brown to Forest in 1946 that started the decline. Should never have let him go.

Wasn't it because Murray appointed Andrew Mills as Director of Football (in job, if not in name), and Davis (understandably) thought better of it?
