I wish someone would say either way its getting a tad annoying to say the least
But what i heard was Mark Huyler was leading a bid with the lottery winner from Spain she is to put £70m of her winnings in he also has Andrew Mills on board as part of his team, and that Dowie will be back

[cite]Posted By: nigel w[/cite]I don't think it is in the least insulting, NSS.
As Goonerhater says : "Why wouldnt people who have put huge amounts of their own wedge into the club look at any proposal in their interests re geting a good part of their money back ? you would be mad not to.''
I think any shareholder would also owe it to their family and dependents to protect their investment as best they could. If a proposed takeover involved writing down the stake of existing investors by , say, 40-50 per cent, said investors would be more than entitled to reject it and seek a better deal, surely ?
from what i understand RM is not holding anything up.
I understand from our perspective the need for investment, but it really saddens me that football has become all about praying for some rich benefactor coming over the horizon. I hear the same thing for pretty much every other club. What the f**k happened to our game!

If you can't beat em - join em!!
And we have clearly proven in the last 2 years that we can't beat em!
[cite]Posted By: BBClaus[/cite]i'm not believing anything after all that zabeel stuff until it's done. just seeing it in the local paper does nothing for me.
Everyone on here seems to have their bit of inside knowledge...
Spot on. Everyone thinks they know something, but no one knows anything.
If there was something going on (and I'm becoming cynical) the last person someone on the inside would tell is someone who posts on internet message boards, so that rules out everyone here !!!
I think the link to Zabeel is a non goer. They are investing in Dubai and only see investment opportunities outside in Restaurant businesses if you read the piece. I am now of the opinion that feck all is going on behind or in front of the scenes.
I know nothing at all about the reality of the situation - news takes a while to travel this far North. However, if a delay is being caused because of some debate over the buyout of current directors' stakes, then I can only imagine the following:
Chappell "I'm not selling my stake for any less than £xx million"
Murray "Don't be ridiculous - if you want £xx for what you've put into this club financially and in time/ commitment over the past year, that would be like me asking for £gazillions considering all that I've put in."
And that's how rumours start that Murray is also digging his heels in. I don't believe it's him for one moment. (If it's anyone...)

Something is definitely going on behind the scenes.
The rumours have been so strong and persistent now for nearly a month that I believe the board and/or Peter Varney would have issued a denial by now if there was absolutely no truth in them. What have they got to gain by letting the rumours develop unchecked?
A number of things have happened that don't make sense unless the board are in discussions about something.
The lack of incentive for early season ticket renewal suggest the board are not relying on ticket sales for their working capital for next season.
A number of senior players are out of contract this summer but none have been released or told they won't be retained yet. This means the board have still not made up their minds if Parky is staying.
The publication of the names of the people being made redundant is very odd to my mind. Why was it even necessary? Perhaps the incoming investors/buyers insisted it was done in order to make it clear to Charlton supporters that the redundancies have been made by the previous owners.
I read all of the above and how you linked it together as 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 357
Firstly why should anyone have to issue a denial if a story is briefly in a paper about them. The only place I've really seen anything is on here. 2 lines in the Sun might be noticed by us but anyone outside of charlton probably wouldnt even notice.
The lack of incentive for early season renewal is to prevent an excuse for those missing this to not buy later feeling they missed out.
Those out of contract probably have been told, it doesnt mean just because we havent been told that this isnt going on behind the scenes.
The final point I think isnt relevant and it completely unconnected. If a takeover is in process then it will happen but in the meantime they will continue as if it isnt. Even if it's 95% done thats still not as close as the zabeel was when that fell through so I would expect the club to continue as if there is no takeover until a point that this is no longer true.

All plausable arguments I must admit......but
Just because rumours are persitent doesn`t mean they are true. Indeed the current crop include Peter Varney, Middle East and The Irish. Can`t all be accurate. The boards communication with the fans in recent years is not particularly great imho so perhaps they don`t feel the need to quash anything. All the time we are talking about a non existant takeover we are not picking up on other issues like Parkinson etc. I was at first persuaded by the lack of season ticket incentive but was informed many weeks ago on this board that Charlton have not offered a renewal incentive for some time apart from the freebie. All the current players are under contract until 30th June so there is no need to rush any announcement. As for the redundancies being on the OS well I suspect a well meaning cock up.
As mentioned earlier, there has been very little in the national press, only in the tabloids and a local paper.
Charlton have however been very much in the news national and quality press included.
1. We were relegated,
2. we have made redundancies
3. numerous reports on how Charlton have to adjust to life in League One
4. we sent Norwich down,
5. We are being compared with Norwich and Southampton who have there own financial challenges with even Southampton having possible though unnamed suitors,
YET, any credible news of a takeover of us has NOT been mentioned. This would be a highly relevant and newsworthy item, especially with our limited finances as a result of mismanagement and subsequent relegation.
Charlton Athletic will be put out to bid in mid-November until the end of 2009.
PLC chairman Derek Chappell will state that after all of the bids are reviewed, that the process will only be about "results."
And then the board will settle on the lowest of eight bidders, following a business pattern set a year earlier!
I have heard that a consortium of Bruce Banner, Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark, Clark Kent and Peter Parker are in talks to turn the valley into a secret fortress

All valid points Balckheath. Except for 'The lack of incentive for early season renewal is to prevent an excuse for those missing this to not buy later feeling they missed out.' If this is the case why do most clubs always have early season ticket renewal incentives. I admit that in recent years we have not had such incentives but this is because we had the free premiership season ticket offer. Prior to that I am sure I remenber incentives for renewing early.
Among the things happening/not happening that don't make sense unless something is going on behind the scenes, I forgot to include the following.
1) We don't currently have a manager; the previous incumbent only had the job until the last game of the season. If the current board are in a position to make a decision on the new manager they would have done so by now. What possible reason is there to delay that decision?
2) We have just been relegated and we don't have a manager and yet there has been no annoucement from the board about its plans for the future and next season in particular. In fact there has been nothing from the board at a time when clearly a lot of season ticket holders are waiting to see what are the plans for the future before making the decision to renew.
I am not saying something will happen but I think something significant is definitely been discussed behind the scenes.

this lack of early renewal incentive thing could just be that we've followed a different strategy - put the prices as low as was viable to get as many renewals as possible, whether that be in may or august.
If people are really waiting to see if parky goes before renewing, would a few quid off really be enough to persuade them to renew in May anyway, before they know who the manager is? Maybe they would still wait and then decide they didnt want to pay an increased price.
The club should just say why they decided against the incentive. Personally, I think it has nothing at all to do with a takeover, more to do with bad communication and PR.

He's not the only person to have heard whispers.
Any anyway - if it gives me something to divert my attention away from my impending redudancy then it's a good thing!
Still - I might get on TV if it's announced when I am off work as I can shoot down to the Valley and be one of the ones on Sky Sports News
If you can't beat em - join em!!

But anyway we will just have to wait and see and be patient and hope that the best deal occurs for all.
