Remember quite a few beanos down there many years ago, drinking in the sun, wasted on the beach eating seafood, trying to impress girls in Dreamland, and if we hadn't gone by coach, then forgetting to buy a train ticket on the way home.

Also the great day we played Margate in a pre-season friendly and drank their bar dry by half-time (behind the goal with a glass frontage over-looking the pitch so we could seee the game) - lovely jubbly!

Did a works beano down there about 2 summers ago (the weekend the tour de France came through locally), absolute hovel now, full of social security b&b's and filled with eastern european immigrants.

Only one decent pub in the evening that did live music, the name escapes me, but it was up near the casino.

Slowly on the decline for years, when younger used to head down there for the anitcs. Slowly started to close down and
Now all that exists the B&B as mentioned and old peoples homes. I sometimes think they are conning the old folk into believing its the same place they visited many moons ago.

used to get a deal on train tickets to get into dreamland or bembom brothers as we knew it, last time was down there was an utter shite fest.. shame really used to love it down there.

Me and three mates drove down one Friday night with a big tent in the boot of the car, the plan was to park up, go and get wrecked, stagger back, put the tent up wake up in the morning and drive home.

Feck knows what happened or how we did it but when I poked my head out the tent in the morning we were on a small round patch of grass surronded by houses, it was like camping on a roundabout!

No surprises we were getting some very strange looks from the residents who soon called the old bill to move us on.

    Happy Days!

Had a double date with a mate (fellow Addick) many moons back. We treated the girls to a slap up Roast Beef dinner and then took them on the Mary Rose. Not a good idea. Didn't see them again....

Oi my mum lives down there at Palm Bay. We pretend its Broadstairs but its Cliftonville really.

Anyway I dont think its quite as bad as some of you guys make out.

Probably is shite for what you guys are talking about but where my Mum lives is very friendly and a bit like Sidcup,Welling used to be when I grew up there as a kid. Everybody is quite neighbourly etc.

Anyway the Apprentice revamp could be quite a laugh given what a shambles they have made of previous tasks.

I cant believe one of the teams has gone for the 'lets market it to the gay community' route.

There are big plans for Margate and Dreamland.

    Take a look here.....www.savedreamland.co.uk.

They plan to build a new park (and already own many rides, kept in storage) which will be a heritage park containing old rides which will remind us all of our past.

We walked to Dymchurch from Hythe few weeks back. Dymchurch another kentish seaside town going down the swanny.

we popped into a pub there before heading back... no one inside bar the bloke behind the bar. Place was filthy. i ran my finger across one of the tables, collected a mound of dust. worse pub ever.

A great story from Margate when I was playing sunday football, a beano was organized and off we went to the coast, all the older players hit the pubs with instructions that the coach will leave at nine oclock with no exceptions. We being the youngsters hit Dreamland or what ever it was called at the time and stayed there all day not leaving until six for a few beers and some chips. After 3 or 4 beers which was enough in those days we got some grub and strolled along the front towards the station carpark to meet the coach when we spotted this old boy we reconized from the coach staggering all over the pavement and going in the wrong direction, grabbing an arm each 2 of the guys got him back to the coach and laid him on the back seat, where he promptly fell asleep, after a couple hours and nearly home someone woke him, to be asked where was he, Woolwich Arsenal next Charlton Station..............what the f**k am I doing here?.........Ah you was a bit pi55ed so we helped you onto the coach.................But I was in Margate on 2 weeks holiday with my wife, we had a row so I went for a drink!!!!!!
We had have a whip round to get him back there by cab.

it was the city of london as mentioned above. Up for sale and am not surprised... a Reading pub too?

perhaps as i havent been to dymchurch for about 15 years I remembered it as something different to what it appeared to be today.

Took my niece and nephew there about four years ago. Christ what a shithole. I used to have family hoildays in Broadstairs pretty much every year (lovely place that was) but even that's a dump now.

There's a couple of nice beaches around Broadstairs, you just have to hope the Chav's from Margate and Ramsgate havent decided to have a day out there as well.

The Captain Digby by Joss bay is a nice pub with decent food.

I went there a couple of years ago, had a bit of as dirty weekend with my girlfriend. I couldn't help feeling that Margate is a high speed train line away from being a terrific place to live. It's turned into a dump since I went there as a kid although it was always a little bit naff even then but at least the naffness was part of the fun.

All this money being pumped into the Thames gateway and our traditional seaside resorts are left to rot.

Regular weekend trip when I was a teenager, easy to jump on the train locally. Initially it was just into Dreamlands, then later it was drinking and then into Dreamlands! Met a good friend at colleged that lived there so used to do lots of weekend binge drinking trips down there and have some great memories (or just some hazy ones!).

We saw a Carling Black Label ad being filmed at Dreamland when a guy went round the Scenic Railway in a wheelchair!

How far round? As mentioned above, there's Captain Digby's, which is on a cliff top overlooking Joss Bay...

NLA - the pub could be the Captain Digby as mentioned above. Past Margate on the way to Broadstairs on top of a cliff.

Maybe not, but then waht the fug do I know anyway!

Used to love days out in Margit as a kid. Been through it a few times recently and the word "Bobhole" springs to mind. Sad really.

I actually live in Broadstairs (the University) around where Westwood cross (for those that know Planet Thanet well). Although I have only had the pleasure of only driving through Margate (mainly when I was learning to drive). I have been assured by my flat mates that at night it is the bee knees... Although they go to only one pub and night club (the Spoons and Escape!)..

I was born in Margate and lived in Broadstairs. I moved away when I was 18 to go to Uni. I moved back to Kent but well away from Thanet but my parents still live there. I used to have fond memories of growing up there but now it's gone down hill. Bemboms needs to open again to attract people back.
