Darren Ward

Hi lads, new member here :) Been a Charlton fan for around 10 years, but haven't seen as much live this season due to university.

Managed to get to the game on Sunday, and the discussion of Darren Ward came up. Contract is up at Wolves, Wolves have already told him he's released, and for the sake of continuity and as backbone to the team next season, it'll be good if we could pick him up on a free, provided he takes a pay cut (cause he must be on relatively high wages) and is prepared to drop down a league. Majority seem quite pleased with him, and from what little I've seen live, Hudson actually looked like a half decent centre back when partnered with Ward. Experience as well could be key next season. What do you guys reckon? Or reckon a lower Championship side i.e. Blackpool or Plymouth might take him.

  • Maybe he'll take a pay-cut, maybe he'll drop a league but that will depend on what other offers he gets.

Invariably footballers sign for whoever offers the best contact, pretty much like the rest of us.
  • Welcome, FCF

not sure if his contract is up or that he's on a free. Said to not be wanted by Wolves but they still may want a fee.

Also with promotion he got an uplift on his wages that would put him out of our range with some major investment coming.

Would love to have him as I think he and Fortune would be a great pairing. And he's from London so might fancy us over similar money from a club like Plymouth.

Then again maybe he likes Parky and would only come for him.
  • Does/Did anyone know why he went off on Sunday & how he is now ?
  • Cracked rib I hear, but should be fine in the long run
  • Understand that he has a year left on his current deal, but Wolves would like a fee for him.
  • I heard it was damage to his collar bone - But Rib sounds more likely
  • I thought he did a good job for us. I would prefer to have him on the wage bill than Hudson.
  • I think hes a quality player. I doubt whether we would be able to afford him. I also think that Hudsons position may be key to him staying. If Hudson wants away, then I doubt Ward will come as they are real mates by all accounts.
  • some of you have to get real.........and quick !

a few years ago we could just afford to look in Harrod's or Fortnum & Mason's, but invariably purchased our goods at Harvey Nicolls.

Then we found that they were too expensive and we started shppoing a bit lower down and looked in Army & Navy and House of Fraser but then bought our goods in Marks & Spencer's or Debenhams.

this year we will looking in Aldi's, Primark and Peacocks !!!!!!

    Buying from the Poundshop?

You'll be lucky! We'll be rummaging in the skip outside Tesco

    ;o)
  • ward was great for us during his spell, him and hudson played quite well together.
if we could get him, keep hudson, elliot.
then i think we have a chance of play offs next season.

we should try buy players from tesco though aswel and poundshop, i have a clubcard and we can get points that way;o)
  • To be honest I thought Ward was better than Hudson, and would be quite happy to ditch Hudson if it paid for Ward.
Fortune and Ward would be formidable in League One IMO, but we'll need some back-up.
  • fortune would suit ward aswel yeah, like you say awswel we need back up fpor sure, and a left and right back.
  • I think we may be asking the Big Issue seller if he can play a bit.
  • what position would you play the big issue seller wolfboy? lol
