Which Former Charlton Player did I meet last night? Part 3 of an occasional series

He was born in New Barnet and played 75 games for the club without ever scoring.

He played under Frank Hill and Bob Stokoe before leaving to join Notts County.

He is now best remembered as the hard part of a quiz question.

Keith Peacock replaced Mike Rose. Not in goal ....... I think right winger Mike Kenning did the honours there.
  • It was indeed Mike Rose, the keeper who injured his knee and was subbed by Peacock to make a little bit of history.
  • It was a finger, Henry, not a knee.
  • "Back on the opening day of the 1965/66 season the Addicks were at Bolton Wanderers and, just a handful of minutes into the game, Rose dived at the feet of a home forward and injured his knee allowing Keith Peacock to replace him and thus become the first substitute to ever be used in the football league."

OS says knee. OS is always right. : - )

I was only three so you may well be right.

OK, I'll defer to the great and all-powerful OS.

Seems like John Hewie went in goal so, if I'm wrong about Mike Kenning, I'm wrong about the finger.

  • Well, it wasn't too bad without looking anything up, was it?

I reckon that Glover and Kenning scored our goals - which would support the fact that Kenning did not go in goal as I don't think we scored early in the game.
