Season Review videos pre 88/89 season

edited May 2009 in General Charlton
Hi all has anyone got for sale the season review videos for any season before the 88/89 season?

I thought I had them all but with what was said on the OS when it was talking about this years video it sounds like there was video's for the 86/87 and 87/88 and possibly before which I haven't got.

If someone had them for sale I would pay a fair price to complete my collection.

Cheers

There was a thread on these a while ago: the videos were shot and sold by Finches Sports in Forest Hill. We've got some but would never part with them, sorry mate. Some classic games,e.g Jim Melrose's hat-trick v. Everton, the 4-3 against Watford and many others. I've done a quick search and the thread was titled Finches Videos (started by Wolfboy) but there was also an earlier discussion on them. It's not about buying/selling but will give you the background how they came about.

Got them both. Coud copy them onto DVD for you, but not for sale. Probably my favourite period of watching Charlton. My two sons were just the right age for it to be a real shared family experience in the Junior Reds and we went to every home game and every single away game,too...

Any possibility of obtaining DVD copies of those seasons(& any earlier, if you have them) from you Nigel?
I would happily pay you £, or get you a bottle of your favourite tipple, & pay for the discs, postage, packaging & your time & trouble.

I was quite young during the aforementioned seasons & only remember small flashes of those years. Would be great to re-live those seasons!

On another Charlton on video/tv-type note, you(& anyone else who reads this thread) wouldn't happen to have or know anyone who does/might have some footage of 86/87 play-offs & final?(ITV/Thames showed the highlights of the replay at St Andrews). Also the G-Mex Soccer 6's tournaments from the late 80s?(victory in 89!). My brother had great footage of both, until a whole load of his videos, sadly including those, were stolen.

Any help gratefully recieved, cheers! :-)
  • My dad certainly used to have the 1989 Soccer Sixes coverage on video, but I'm not sure whether he still has. Will have to ask.
  • Cheers Ali! :-) Much appreciated, whatever the verdict!
  • Gents,

I have both videos in my parents loft, like the others i would never part with them!! However by some fluke i was sent 2 copies of each (havent a clue why). I will not be able to get over there until the weekend after next but if you send me a reminder towards the end of next week (bad memory ) i will let whoever wants the spares have them.

Perhaps we should start a Charlton Life Swap Shop ;o)

Put me down for them mate if you could that would be brilliant.

Ill whisper you a reminder at the end of next week.

86/87 and 87/88 were the first ones they did aren't they?
  • They were definately the first ones i have seen.

Some quality camera work, the sun shinning into the camera and the operator shielding it with his hand ;o)

    Speak next week
  • First one I have is 1988/89

Would love some of the soccer sixes coverage though, lost my video to this

  • I've got the soccer sixes at my parents somewhere and I'm pretty sure I've got the season review videos as well.

I've also got the full members quarter final game at Everton(90 minutes, extra time and penalties with no commentry!) the 3-0 win at Newcastle (Leaburn, Crooks & Miller) and for some reason a 1-1 draw at Sheff Wed from the first season back in the (old) first div.

I've not seen it for a while but somewhere I've got a video of a 2-1 win at home to Birmingham from about 84 that was on match of the day
  • Somewhere we've got the '86 Hammers video of the game where Jim Melrose scores Charlton's quickest ever goal (9 secs). The commentator says to Alvin Martin, the 'expert', "What happened there then Alvin?" There follows a complete silence for ages then Alvin starts giving his opinions just as if we hadn't scored at all!
  • Hi Nigel, Just sent you a message,

If you are making any copies of the aforementioned season's, would love to try and get copies if at all possible.
Like a few it seem's I got 88/89, and thought that was the first, with the 80's and 70's compilations coming a few years later.

    Cheers in advance
  • Hasn't the 88/89 one got brief coverage of the soccer sixes on it?
  • I remember Motty's comment in the 6's. as Liverpool went 3 nil up. "Charlton are getting a football lesson here " or words to that effect. We went on to win 6-3 How proud we all were lol.

I've got loads of videos in the loft that will probably never see the VHS light of day again. Really should catalogue them and see if anyone wants them.

  • I also would be interested in both seasons on dvd and would pay for any inconvenience. Please whisper me to discuss. Many thanks in advance.

Nope, just a brief mention by Jim Rosenthal, but no physical coverage.

    Ditto again Nigel! :-)

If I'm not mistaken, when asked "what happened there...?" Alvin replies....."well, we always knew Charlton were good on the break!" Bell-end.
  • Don't think that's on our copy. Bugger, now I've got to spend tomorrow in the loft looking for the tape!
  • Will go into the attic to search for whatever old videos I have this week. Some may be officvialand some not - I've also got the soccer sixes on video and the entire play-off final v Leeds.

Then will have to get one of my (adult) kids to copy them digitally on to dvd. I've got the equipment to do it, but buggered if I know how it works.
