I was out last night so I recorded the Madrid v Barca match. As I was due to meet some people in Marylebone at 8 I got there early and asked for directions to a pub that shows football so that I could catch at least the first half live. I was given directions to a pub called the Gunmakers. As I walked through the door I saw a group of people in football shirts I did not recognise with the collars turned up and, to my horror, when I turned to the large screen they were looking at it was filled by a bunch of bulked up freaks rolling around on the floor. Thankfully I also saw a smaller screen in the corner showing the build up to the Madrid v Barca game so I bought a beer for myself and my mate and sat down.
Straight from kick off the Madrid v Barca game developed into one of the most thrilling and entertaining games I have ever seen. Every now and then there would be cheers from the people watching the other screen and I would look at that screen and see a fat bloke lumbering up the field being chased by a bunch of other fat blokes. And I thought to myself it is the end of the season and the club I support has had one the worst seasons in living memory but at the end of the day I am a football fan and football is the beautiful game and it is the world game and at that moment I was watching one of the finest examples of that game along with countless millions of TV viewers around the world. And I felt extremely fortunate that I am obviously missing the gene that would allow me to view rugby as anything other than the world’s ugly game.
