Our Squad of 20?

edited May 2009 in General Charlton
Since our squad is gonna be reduced, which we were more than aware has needed doing for a while now.

With so many out of contract, who are we left with, and who do you expect to leave also?

1 - Elliot
Randolph
Weaver

2 - Basey
3 - Hudson
Fortune
Ward
Butterfield

4 - Mouts
5 - Solly
Thomas
6 - Youga
7 - Semedo
Arter
Wright
Ambrose
Holland
ZZ

8 - Youseff
9 - Shelvey
10 - Bailey
11 - Sam
12 - Spring
13 - Christiansen
14 - Racon
15 - Sinclair
16 - Wagstaff
Kandol
Toddy

17 - Mcloed
18 - Burton
19 - Gray
20 - Dicko
21 - Fleetwood

Now with just the out of contract players thats a squad of 21, I expect mouts and sinclair to go, christiansen to be loaned out again, poss youseff loaned out or released, atleast 1 poss 2 of the forwards to go, one of Bailey/Racon/Shelvey to poss be sold leavin us with a squad of 15 poss 16

Now we need another keeper, probably offer contract to randolph, atleast 2 more CBs, hopefully offer fortune and he accepts plus one other, 1 RB - hopefully solly will make step up next year and there's always semedo who can play there. and a striker really need two more

And that would bring us back to 20/21, but there appears to be no room for wright or arter, which would be a shame

Comments

  • No deff need either wright or arter as back up
  • I think you'll see Mou2 go.
  • He did say a squad of 20 plus three or four youngsters, so I expect Wright/Arter would still be classed as youngsters.
  • Looking at that on paper thats a pretty piss poor squad!!
  • Christensen will go, he has no future here. Same with Yassin.

Sinclair though might have a chance of staying and breaking through. Problem is we signed Spring and have Wright, Arter, Yussuff and now Stavrinou fighting for places as back up midfielders. Then there's the decision to be made on Holland. Obviously then we want to keep Racon, Bailey and Shelvey, and Parkinson has even spoke about trying to keep Zheng.

Then he really has lost the plot!

    Not necessarily .......

Offer ZZ a 2 year contract.
If by Xmas we are top of the pile or thereabouts, ZZ would have contributed to that if he stays.
And we're on course for the promised land, lol

Second, by giving him a contract - he now has a decent transfer value.
If it goes tits up by Jan, then ZZ can be flogged to West Brom or someone desperate for £750k/mill

    Same with Jonny Forch.
  • There is no way in the world that his agent is going to advise him to sign a new contract with us.

He's an international player why would to want to play 3rd division football?

And why would he want to sign a deal with us on division 3 money when he can go to a premiership side on a free and pick up a huge signing on fee and premiership wages. This is of course assuming that he stays in England, I'm sure a few clubs in Europe (not to mention China where I understand he has a Beckham like following) would be more than interested in signing him

Sorry but any thought of ZZ staying with us is total pie in the sky imo.
  • [cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Christensen will go, he has no future here. Same with Yassin.
    .
And who exactly will be taking on his massive wage?
  • There are plenty of internationals playing in the 3rd tier I think.

It's not as if he's the captain of Brazil.

Its highly unlikely, damn near impossible if he stays but he's not exactly been a star for the past 18 months has he?

  • If Parkinson came out and said there's no chance of keeping Zheng we could have criticized his lack of ambition. Shame.

It's unlikely but I think he's saying he'll look into the possibility.

No idea but someone will. It might end up being a loan and we still pay part of his wages, but we'll find a way to get him out of the squad.
  • 2 keepers, 2 right backs, 3 centre backs, 2 left backs, 5 central midfielders, 4 wingers, 4 strikers plus a couple of youngsters (another keeper, striker, midfielder possibly).

That's 22 plus a couple of youngsters, with a couple of the defenders and/or midfielders being able to play in a couple of positions.

Sounds alright to me. Just who those players be will be interesting....

Contracted & Likely to be on lowish wages:-

    Keepers-Elliott, Randolph
    RB-Semedo, Moo2, Solly
    CB-None
    LB-Youga, Basey
CM-Racon, Bailey, Spring, Youseff, Shelvey, Sinclair
    Wingers-Sam, Waggy
    Strikers-McLeod, Burton, Dicko, Fleetwood, Tuna
I'd imagine most of the above will stay, except Moo2, Sinclair & Fleets, perhaps Izzy to go with Arter & Wright and perhaps Fortune to be re-signed. Not a bad squad at this level, Clarke & Mambo to come through. We need three centre halves and a striker or two. Have I missed anyone?
  • Yeah, we need a manager

    ;o)
  • If this rumoured takeover goes through, maybe then ZZ will be offered a new contract? ;-)

if this rumoured takeover does happen we will need a lot more than this guy...... a decent manager might well be a start, and a small one at that!
On the basis of what we have...... the third division will not be a cake walk as others have posted.
  • Fortune will stay
