  • Please, no, we're all in a good mood today. Thank you.
  • Anyone but him, who said it was a nice day in another thread?

    Gems like

“For the supporters it is important they are patient because sometimes there are players out of contract who you need to get in quickly like Murk Hudson last year."

    bump...

“In an emergency you can use the loan system. I know that has come in for criticism for us this year but you don’t need that many players at a football club and we’ve had too many.”

Ergo the whole of P & P's tenure in the championship has been one big sodding emergency...

Please board, hurry up and review his position, perhaps taking in to account results and our place in the league table. Two minor details, I know...
  • for gawd's sake he is talking as though he has the job. If he has perhaps the Board could tell us too. He was appointed until the end of the season so IF he is going to continue we should at least expect to be told too. If he hasn't then some of his comments are arrogant. Doesn't he realise the mess he's got us in. I'm getting well fecking fed-up I tell you. If he is confirmed as in charge I'll despair.
  • If he hasnt been told though then he is completely right to go about his job - it's not his fault.

Would you rather he did absolutely nothing: didnt speak to agents or managers about possible sales or buys etc?

    He is being professional.

Spot on. He's got to carry on until he's told one way or the other. Anything else and people would be moaning about his lack of commitment.

He's a decent and very hard working guy. If he goes, he goes and the results don't lie so he can have little complaint but that won't stop me feeling sorry for him.

I hope he gets a chance to show what he can do. If not here then somewhere else.

On his current form, I would rather he didn't...
  • What a quandrey.....after a couple of years without a s/t due to ill health and, even the Premiershit bored me in to a stupor in the end to be honest, I was just about to show my support for the lads by dipping into my piggy bank an purchasing a couple (I would then be able to press gang a guest to watch 3rd Div football).

I really cant resolve my overidding conviction that anything involving Parkinson will be complete shit though. Better put the cheque book away then until this becomes clearer.

And before anyone starts, I am old school CAFC and probably seen more 2/3rd division football than you whipper snappers have had hot din dins......
  • what WSS and Henry said ...
  • Yeah he's doing the right things, looking at what he would do if he's still here.

If he's going to go it's got to be as soon as possible though.

I agree with this interpretation. I am more confident than ever that PP will get the gig for next season. PP does not strike me as an arrogant man. Several weeks ago we were saying he looked like dead man walking ! Not any longer it would appear.

  • You know something....I think the board are going to give him the job.......yet another blunder?
  • I like what he's said about the youngsters
Academy striker Tamer Tuna recently made his first-team debut, but Parkinson insisted he would only throw the club's youngsters into the fray when they are ready.

Said Parkinson: "I'm not going to put youngsters in the squad as a token gesture to our supporters. I've said many times that it's important that youngsters get their chance at the right time.

"A good example of this is Scott Wagstaff. I felt he was pushed too soon, too quickly and it had a detrimental effect on his confidence. It's only in the last six weeks that we've got Scotty back to where he should be so there is a danger in throwing youngsters in too quickly if they're not ready for that environment.

"Alex Stavrinou and Jack Clark - the two second years who have been given professional contracts - aren't ready yet for first-team football. But we feel with another six months physical development they could be ready next year. Jonjo Shelvey has done it, Tamer's had a little taste but other players need longer.

"Tamer and Solly have made good strides this year as have others. Yado Mambo has been excellent and I've no doubt he's going to be a Charlton first-team player but he needs a bit longer in my eyes."

Charlton announced this week that the club's renowned youth set-up will retain its academy status despite the Addicks' relegation from the Championship - news that delighted Parkinson, who added: "For me it was an absolute must that it was kept. The supporters understand the financial problems but if the academy was to fall by the wayside they'd really worry about the structure and longevity of this club.

"As long as you've got that academy in place you know there will be a conveyor belt of players coming through. The money that the academy costs is fully justified by the players we've got in and around the first team at the moment.

Was clear to see Wagstaff wasn't ready, Pardew didn't see that though and kept using him.

He's right about Mambo from what I've seen. If we were in the Prem he wouldn't break through but he has a decent chance in the next few years.

Sounds like he's staying here. Think it's the same story just on the OS, without looking properly.
  • I would put cash on PP being here next year.
