We should thank Richard Murray (and the other directors) not just for their money but also their business acumen in building a successful club on little or no debt. Yep the wheels have fallen off but their legacy will remain with a fantastic stadium and the memory of a glorious decade.
[cite]Posted By: Six-a-bag-of-nuts[/cite]Let's not forget Roger Alwyn in all this recognition hyperbole, Bing.
Guess it'll have to be The Roger Alwyn car park, then. (Sorry Rog)
You are also forgetting about Mike Stevens, the Chicago-based director, whose funds helped the club make payroll and helped to make the return to The Valley a reality. His financial contributions then, and the role that he play, has been underplayed in the whole Charlton saga.
It should also be noted, and I do not think has been previously reported here, that Mike resigned from the PLC board in December, after something in the neighborhood of 18 or 19 years. He is still on the football club board, but no longer on the PLC.
Doug you mentioned Mike on an earlier thread and you are right to mention him again. I was guilty of coming up with a list, knowing that I will be bound to miss somebody out. There are of course quite a few Directors and former Directors who dug deep to help the club.
Its good to see Richard Murray getting the praise he so richly deserves, he has placed total confidence in our Managers, and backed them with hard cash to purchase the players, the fault lies with Dowie and Pardew wasting that confidence and money on players who were not fit to wear the red shirt. We have a superb stadium as a legacy of RM and the board, this Club of ours will be back...
